How far would people honestly travel for a win

  • I tend not to enter stuff that will cost me more to collect, so wouldn't bother with a £10 voucher for a shopping centre in Nottingham say, as I am in Kent.
Also, I don't bother with one night stays in hotels that would take me more than a couple of hours to get to, or gig tickets when I know it's too short notice to get a babysitter.
But I would travel for something substantial like the chance to have a once in a lifetime experience. Just after Christmas we took my daughter and niece, both 5, for a VIP trip to Disney on Ice at the O2. OK, it is only 90 minutes from here, but the fact we spent £100+ on petrol, parking, lunch and souvenirs was offset by the fact that we had rink side seats and they were taken on to the ice to be part of the show.
That was a prize win, literally money couldn't buy it as the experience wasn't for sale.
    So it depends.

Also, we're assuming Val S from Kinrosshire wouldn't travel for the day - she may have family in London or be planning a visit anyway, so it wouldn't be as "unfair" then.

anything out of kent is usually too far for me

might push it to chessington or brighton if something was there - london is do able
  • I'd love to attend some of the festivals further north but unfortunately I don't drive so I have to be selective as hotel prices around these events tend to rocket.

My partner & I are always looking at ways to hire a car cheaply but unfortunately with most wins you're not given much notice so that option tends to be an expensive one too.

Would you enter for holidays that fly from airports out of your catchment?

For a physical prize I will travel 10 miles for every £100 the prize is worth, but for tickets etc no matter what the "value" I wouldn't travel more than 10 miles.
  • If it wasn't walkable or no more than a short - say 15 mins - bus ride away I wouldn't bother.

This is partially because I have a morbid fear of being stranded somewhere I am unfamiliar with.
  • I would never enter any where I couldn't attend or use or give prize to someone else. I have won small prizes which I have sold but tickets that go to waste seems a dreadful shame and selfish when someone else might have really wanted to go. I don't enter for holidays with young children or holidays in term time since I wouldn't be able to take them.

I do have a quick look at T&C's of any I am unsure about and pass by if not something I could use.
  • I do get annoyed (especially on twitter) when I see people who have entered for everything and then win tickets I desperately wanted to win. I do question if they would actually travel one end of the country to the other! But, having said that, my family will travel anywhere to watch an England cricket or Rugby match. Hubby and son have been to Nottingham, Birmingham and Cardiff for a days cricket (wins).

The only tickets we could get for the Rugby World Cup were in Cardiff and Milton Keynes so we shall be having a family day trip to Cardiff from Hertfordshire (and it's not even England! It's Fiji and someone else lol) Hopefully I'll win some for Twickers (I live in hope :rotfl:)
