How far would people honestly travel for a win

Hmmm I now need to win some premiere tickets for The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel with Richard Gere in attendance.
Saying that, even though I have thoroughly enjoyed my premiere/screening wins, the only experience I have had with the stars is them popping in to introduce the film for 2 mins before rushing to the screening room next door to do the same. So although I have enjoyed the experience, no I would not travel more than an hour for it.
i was sat next to stephen fry in the hobbit premier and orlando bloom was a few seats back, they all sat in with us which was a pretty cool experience0 -

And one not many of us would ever get the opportunity of if it weren't for comping.
I think it's brilliant there are so many that would travel and be willing to cover the extra cost so as not to miss out on what sometimes can be quite unforgettable experiences.
On the minus side I now know my odds of winning a little afternoon or evening jaunt into town have dropped dramatically0 -
Living in Pink Panther Land I rarely enter comps for prizes further South than the Midlands, but I would enter for almost anywhere going North, but this would be for a show I really wanted to see.
I have tickets for Crufts next month which is about 200 miles from us but we will make a weekend of it.
I have only been to London once and I have no fancy to return, but if I could win tickets for Thriller on the West End I am sure I could force myself to go back to the smoke.
If the prize was a car/motorhome I would travel the length/breadth of the UK to pick it up without a thought“I'd rather laugh with the sinners than cry with the saints.” - Billy Joel

I live in North Yorkshire and enter competitions for London and Edinburgh as I visit quite often with cheap deals on the East Coast Mainline. I also enter for reasonable sized collection prizes in Manchester, Sheffield or Newcastle as I'd happily collect a prize there (again thanks to rail infrastructure - also as I can have a nice day out!).
I've won facials and afternoon teas in London and fitted them in around visits and I've had tickets to a foodie festival and events in Edinburgh we've been to as well.
I do read competitions thoroughly and I also check my calendar to see if it's possible I could make it.
I've not entered comps to film premieres, usually because they only tell you with 24 hours notice and that's not quite enough for me and hubby to arrange dog/teen care!
I have entered for gig tickets including O2 etc although the ones I've won have been within a couple of hours (Manchester, Leeds, Newcastle).
I do think a lot of people enter for the h3ll of it or the joy of winning, but each to their own, I suppose. We're all different0 -
I won tickets to the Chelsea Flower Show with a "backstage" visit and a night in a nearby hotel afterwards- no travel included. I came down from NE Scotland for this (spending a LOT on last minute flights to London- train wasn't any cheaper!) Reason being I knew my mum had always wanted to go so I had thought about it before I entered and had decided I'd cough up to get there if I did win. I met the other winner who was from Kent- they were amazed where we'd schlepped from!
Edited to add, I have won a night in a hotel in London before too- but then it was far enough in advance that we got much cheaper easyJet flights and made it my birthday weekend but we wouldn't have done anything otherwise- comping ends up costing me a fair bit of the time!0 -
I don't tend to enter for the premier tickets for that exact reason the travel. I suppose if an actor or actress I really really liked I might justify the travel other wise its not really interested me.
It's the same with tickets people enter in hope to make a few quid but most promoters are wise to this and tickets are to be collected at the venue. I won tickets to see Rita Ora at Newbury Racecourse (around 5 minutes from our house at the time) the lady at the entrance said I was one of the only winner that actually showed up.Ask.. Believe.. Receive..

I almost never enter tickets comps. I live in the far north west of Scotland, my nearest city is INverness which is still a 2 hour drive away. I'd be willing to go to something there if I won tickets but I'd very unlikely travel further.
I once entered a comp to win an ipad, the runner up prize was tickets to a country show in Essex. Typical, I won those! I have a friend who lives only a 10 minute drive from where the show was though so I gave her the tickets and she was chuffed with them and had a great day outI just enter and forget...hoping to win something!0 -
I live about 80 miles from London and have travelled there for wins before. What does annoy me are a couple of mag daillies recently posted, where the first prize is tickets and accommodation and then runner up prizes of just tickets. The last train leaves early, so I would have to stay and although the show is one I would like to see if I won tickets and accommodation, I would not be able to pay for a hotel, so have decided not to enter, as knowing my luck, I would be a runner up prize winner.0

My daughter and I once travelled from West Cornwall to London for a "backstage" tour of the Museum of London's Costume Dept, which lasted a couple of hours. It was absolutly worth it. Unforgettable experience.0

I will happily travel a long way for a prize. I just use the prize as an excuse for a good day out! If I won a meet and greet with Jedward in London I would have a great day trip... to Edinburgh!
I was one of 12 winners of a giftcard in an advent a couple of years ago, and the promoter invited us to London to be presented with the prizes and have our photos taken. This was not a condition of winning, but 11 of the winners turned up including those from places as far away as Merseyside, West Midlands and Yorkshire. The only no-show was someone from Essex.
