It's all a balancing act from the factory.
Things also move on and improvements are found.
    There are also cost considerations.
Take the E39 M5 - change the exhaust and gain 40-50 bhp. This is a 10% improvement.
BMW should have specced it like this, and not have set the rev limit so high.

Changing it from the original specification simply will not have any overall net improvement on the vehicle's behaviour.
Everything's a compromise. Ground clearance is one factor to balance. The cosmetics of a lowered car are purely personal opinion. Whether lowering a car like an M3 makes the slightest difference to grip or handling is a moot point at anything short of track speeds.
  • Sorry forgot about this, been busy with work!

Unfortunately the £120 odd is due to the mods - taking the OAPs off is only adding an extra £200.

RE: whether the OAPs help or not - they helped massively - I was being quoted £1,600 on my own, £900 with working adult and £700 with all 3 - now it's back to about £900, but when I declare the mods it's over £1,000 - all of that was with me as the main driver, owner & policyholder.

I will try Flux again - they quoted me more than EUI in previous years (EUI always the cheapest for me) as they said they didn't take the additional driver game into consideration and were quoting £1,150. The man actually said if EUI are giving £730 quotes then bite their hands off (given my lack of driving history and the fact I wrote off a 62 plate car, that's why I'm stuck with this!).

I'll try them again now I'm being quoted 1k, maybe with the mods it'll give me a chance at a decent price as Jamie says.
