Lowered suspension & alloy wheels!

I'm sure there are two DM personalities (and I use the word loosely) on just this one thread. It really has to stop,
Just spotted this on MSN News, seems appropriate.

There are so many better cars than a Corsa, and it isn't exactly a drivers car. The money in buying the lowered suspension would be put to better use on a car that's actually worth lowering. I don't mean expensive RWD cars like an M3 or a Mazda RX7 but even a Polo GTI, Honda CTR or Celica, cars that the tangible benefit of lowering are actually felt and hence improving handling characteristics of that car.
I don't know why people bother changing the wheels, suspension and bumpers on an old A3 SE.
Doesn't change it from being a high mileage oil burner mediocre car.
Can't polish a turd.0 -
Or just buy an S-Line, probably cheaper to insure and worth more on resale.
I'm getting deja vu with all this talk of rolling turds in glitter.0 -

I can only speak for the Corsa B as that's what i had, but it brought the arch gap down a good bit to stop it looking like a monster truck and made it handle much better as well.
It still handled poorly, but poorly is better than terrible.Hanna_angels wrote: »There are so many better cars than a Corsa, and it isn't exactly a drivers car. As above. A standard Corsa B is one of the worst handling cars i'd ever had to drive alongside a 1980's Polo on 135 width remoulds.
They're cheap to buy, cheap to modify and cheap to repair. Great for anyone who wants to drive, modify or learn on a budget.Hanna_angels wrote: »On far too many occasions I have personally witnessed young drivers lowering a Clio or Fiesta and think its money down the drain. They usually use the cheapest springs they could find and before you know it, they have shot dampers and broken drop links. It's also important to get a proper wheel alignment after lowering. Some people skip this step out and wear out their tyres faster and drive a car with potentially dangerous handling.
I have 2 rules if someone wants to lower a car. Firstly, if you want to lower, do it properly and spend the money on quality parts like Eibach, H&R or Bilstein. Otherwise you'll end up with a car that has worse handling than stock and further expenses down the line replacing other bits.
Secondly, spend the effort, time and money lowering a car that's worth lowering. Like I said, it doesn't have to be expensive cars worth £15k plus. It can be on a £3k Celica or even an old Golf.
£3k celica is still worlds apart from a £700ish car which is what i'd expect to pay for a Corsa B/C.
When i got my suspension on my B done it was -40mm Jamex Springs & dampers. £135 delivered for all 4 corners.
I went for them because my standard ones were knackered and these were much cheaper.
3 years and approx 45k miles later they were still fine.
I know you get some numpties out there on the modded car scene doing stupid stuff with car mods but just because a lot of the silly modders drive cheap cars, it doesn't mean all modders who drive cheap cars are the same way
I drive a modded 2006 Ibiza FR TDi just now and i'd happily have another Corsa B again. It was a fun car, even if it was slow as a week in the jail. All your base are belong to us.0 -

no it was admiral. I got a quote from them as per ususal, they forgot to ask me about modifications so I told them I have aftermarket alloys on and the quote dropped by £100 there an then.
It could possibly have triggered a "negotiation discount" or something. I know that admiral often quote you a higher premium and then ask you "how does that sound", opening the door for discounts if you don't think it's reasonable.0 -

Although if he changes the owner with every new alias it's probably worthless by now.0 -
