That's true, but maybe the OP has checked what the premium would be for a standard car and the £100+ is the difference due to the slammed suspension - although I may be projecting too much initiative :D.
Premium £X with other drivers, no mods.
£X+12 with other drivers, with mods.
£X+100 without other drivers, with mods.

You're probably right, but the OP also says:

"What is the kind of cost of getting the suspension put back to normal? I'm hoping to be able to ask a garage to do it when I take it in for an MOT? Looking at insurance renewal and it's costing £100+ extra due to this."

which suggests that the additional premium is due to the mods.

Without clarification from the OP we may never know.
  • I previously had 2 x OAPs and a working adult on my insurance (all female).

The two OAPs probably weren't helping, I used to have my dad as a named driver on my insurance. When he retired the insurance went up, replaced with my partner who was a learner at the time and full time job and quote went down.

Sex no longer matters to insurance companies either.

    Thanks :)

It's a Corsa which probably doesn't help matters!

They're not even decent condition so I doubt I'd get much for them - worth a try though! Going to phone up my existing insurers and have a moan... although they're the cheapest by miles, they don't know that! Wonder if they'll waive the fee for me!

Is it on springs or coil overs?

Springs its just a simple case of putting on a new set of springs. If's on coilovers then its new springs and shocks.

Also worth noting that the SRI and SXi models have a drop in suspension height over the standard models but its not 4cm worth.

Stupid question but they actually are the aftermarket alloys?
Is the drop in suspension not just the standard sri/sxi drop?

A full set of SXI/SRI alloys can be had around £300 in decent nick(remeber putting Steelies on SXI/SRI is classed as a mod) and steelies much less than that.

Corsa are usually expensive to insure because of there boy racer rep which is shame as there cracking small cars.
  • I'd personally consider replacing the vehicle as there's a good chance the head gasket could go soon.

The same mentality that causes someone to want to lower a vehicle's suspension also causes them to frequently rev it to the red line when it's cold.

    I've lowered a couple cars.
You find car enthusiasts understand more of how the engine works, and look after it accordingly.
I fail to see how wanting a car to corner flatter or have a better stance brings on the need to redline a cold engine; or how that will make the head gasket about to expire.

For some reason I think the type of drivers who even bother lowering a Vauxhall Corsa, know next to nothing about how an engine works and aren't car enthusiasts.

Why do they lower it then?

I'm not sure, maybe because they think it looks better? The Corsa was never a sports car so I don't think anyone in their right mind will lower a Corsa for performance reasons

So that would make them interested in cars - a car enthusiast.
