Catalogue delivery scam?

Last week I received an iPad from a catalogue company who I have no account with. I emailed them back straight away as I had read about a catalogue delivery scam and told them I had no account with them and to disable the said account immediately. A few days later I receievd another parcel from the company. I emailed them again but have he no reply. Where should I go from here? I don't want to return the iPad without first hearing from them first but I don't want to be billed for it, not pay and have my credit score blemished for absolutely no fault of my own. I'd appreciate any help thanks

Call them? They must have a fraud department.
If anything let the police know too?

Oh and keep the ipads safe, don't put them on eBay...

  • It's JD Williams and yes there was an invoice in both parcels with my name and address on it. I now owe them over £400.

Ring them up and ask to speak to someone from the fraud department , If someone has has fraudulently opened an account they may switch addresses and order more goods.

Call the fraud department on 0161 386 2285 and they will arrange for the items to be collected for you and close the accounts. The account number will contain one letter and seven numbers quote this to them.

    Thanks for your advice x
  • Finally had an email from JD Williams, this is the reply.

    Thank you for your email.

I am unable to trace any orders placed on your account. If you wish us to investigate the good further please forward a copy of the delivery note?

If you wish to discuss your account please contact us on 0161 386 2285.

I also got the same response when I rang them, at a cost of at least £1.20. Where should I go from here?

For a catalogue delivery scam to work, surely the scammer would be ordering the goods under your name and the items delivered to another address?

Get copies of your credit reports from all 3 agencies to see if an account with JD Williams has been taken out in your name.

Do you live with other people? Any chance someone in your household has ordered these items in your name to keep for themselves?

Keep the items safe in the meanwhile and wait to hear back from the company. Send them the info they requested and just wait.

  • I'd been waiting for a scam 'delivery driver' to knock on the door and collect the parcel but nobody has, which is very confusing. There's just myself and my husband here and he knows nothing about them. I'm thinking they might just check accounts using an email address, but I've had no correspondence with them until I emailed them so I'm guessing whoever opened the account in my name used a fake email address. I've never ordered from a catalogue so don't really know how they work.

You really need to obtain copies of your credit report in that case, sounds like possible ID fraud.

Is there an account number on the invoice? Perhaps call their customer service line again and ask when the account was opened and why you've been sent the items. For such an expensive item they will notice sooner or later and want it back so keep it safe.
