Is AA Gold Warranty at Car Giant worth it?
I've just bought a VW Golf 1.4 automatic with 25000 miles from Car Giant. Is it worth the money to take out the AA Gold warranty ranging from 1 year = £449 to 3 years = £749. Not cheap. Another thing - does anyone know what their 'reduced level of cover' is which is in small print on the personal quotation. Just called them and sales guy had no idea but suggested asking when I pick up my car tomorrow.
Thanks.
Thanks.

In the first year its the sellers problem if it breaksdown. So £448 for the first year is a waste.
Reduced level of cover? Where does it say that? Reduced cover to get a lower premium maybe?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

Since when?0 -
Give VW a call for a quote if you really want a warranty.
I wouldn't bother with the Car Giant one unless you can negotiate it into the deal as most things will be classed as wear and tear.0 -
Yes Jamie - it says exactly that on my personal quotation.
Forgot - The salesman said I am only covered for a month after purchase. How do think its a year?
Car Giant don't do negotiation.0 -
Simple answer no, not in my view.
Just put the money in a savings account and pay for any repairs if needed. Or use existing money you already have put away for emergencies.
Insurance companies will always warn you how unreliable things are and how you need to insure against failure. If things were that bad they wouldn't offer to insure them.Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.0 -

Because the car must be fit for purpose and you should expect a car with that mileage to be pretty much as new.
Anything fails then you offer them the chance ti fix it or take them to the small claims.
Within 6 months its deemed they sold you a faulty car, After 6 months you need to prove it was faulty. Not exactly as black and white as that but with a bit of thought its easy to win against them.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Things to check with warranty:
Is there a claim limit?
Is there an hourly labour charge limit?
Do they nominate the repairers e.g. Halfords Auto Centres.
The whole purpose of these warranties seems to be to avoid paying out in a lot of cases.Je suis sabot...0 -

So how is it the dealers responsibility within the "first year"?
And what makes you think a 25k mile car (prob about 35k mile after the year) should be 100% problem free? Components wear, things happen. A lot of faults should well see the dealer sort it, still leaves many that wouldn't.
To tell a poster effectively that they shouldn't have to pay for any repairs for the first year is ridiculous.0 -
Judging by the responses - thanks - I get the impression that its down to luck whether the car goes wrong or doesn't go wrong within the given time. I am taking it on a long trip - 700 miles within the first month so I guess that will put it to the test. If something drastic goes wrong then Car Giant will sort it within the first month but no longer. As you say 25000 on the clock is a positive, VW is a positive, so the test is time and luck.
If something drastic goes wrong I will have to spend the money in any event but your are right to suggest keeping it in a savings account. Cheers.0 -

Yes, components wear.. But that wont be covered by the warranty either. Yes it does leave parts uncovered its a used car and you expect it to be in a used condition. But again the warranty wont cover those.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
