Their billing system charged me twice for the same units of energy (start/end reading overlapping on two bills). A complaint rectified it but they lost my trust as there's no reason I should have to check my bills so closely. So I'm in the process of switching away.
I got a similar email
Thank you for getting in touch regarding your account with GB Energy.
Upon investigating your account information, we can confirm that a small discrepancy on your previous meter readings was preventing our systems from producing an accurate statement for you.
We're pleased to advise we have amended this issue, and have submitted for a replacement copy the previously failed bill to be sent to your email address.
Nope, it was because you billed me for the same units twice you sneaker !!!!!!s. How many other people has this happened to I wonder?0 -
I joined today after EDFs recent price hikes (price promise to price protection of around £70pa), and GBE quoted me £173 (Fixed 12 Crystal) less than EDFs 1yr fix, and general feedback on them has been okay. I'll keep a close eye on the bills however, just in case.0

I don't think they do it on purpose, I just think their billing system is rubbish.0 -
Just an update on how my switch is progressing.
I started my switch 7 days ago from EDF. During which time I've been emailed 3 times to keep me up to date with the progress and things. Firstly to acknowledge my registration, secondly to send me my welcome pack, and today to remind me to check my details, and to confirm when my direct debit will start. I've received a letter in the post too.
Logging into my account via their website - It's basic, and I can't do much so far, but I don't need bells and whistles, so as long as I can submit readings and download PDF bills, I'm happy.
So it's a case of so far so good.0 -
Is this the right place to let you know that the rates your Cheap Energy Club uses aren't the same as the rates GB Energy used when I got a quote just now?
GB Energy states:
Unit Rate (p/kWh) 10.752p
Standing Charge (p/Day) 20.055p
Tariff Comparison Rate (TCR) 13.11p
whereas Cheap Energy Club gives:
unit rate:
9.870p
standing charge: 20.601p
TCR: 11.23p (based on my usage - or 12.3p UK average)
This makes the Cheap Energy Club's prediction optimistic by £46.
*SORRY!* Just noticed that the quote I got wasn't the tariff used by Cheap Energy Club. You have to look a bit deeper to get their fixed rate quote, they don't give the choice if you simply click to get a quote from their landing page. *OOPS.*0 -
I found GB Energy amateurish with poor service. I called a few weeks ago as I was in debt to them and wanted to pay something off. Their finance department was apparently unavailable and would be so all day. I was asked to call back another day. How ridiculous is that? I haven't called back, I simply moved suppliers instead.
To say you can't move if you're in debt is rubbish. I now owe them about £100 and have just had notification that I've successfully moved. I have found this time that it's been much quicker to move suppliers too. Three weeks for gas and four for electricity, with different small suppliers. So I'm now with Daligas for gas and Avro for electricity. Will see how this goes!0 -
I switched to GB energy in March, which was fine, monthly payment in advance was the only niggle, but I knew in advance and accepted that.
GB sent an email last month that variable tariff would be going up, which is fair enough, but then had another email to say account will move from monthly to quarterly billing at the same time, which I don't feel is reasonable.
The bills are automated/online anyway, so I can't see any reason to switch to quarterly billing, other than to hide the price increase for a few months.
There are no exit penalties, so have contacted to check if I can stick with monthly bills, otherwise will look to switch again.0 -
Update on my switch:
04-Aug - Registered with GBES
05-Aug - Received welcome pack
01-Sep - First payment taken
03-Sep - First meter reading requested
04-Sep - Supplied meter reading
I've not received an email to confirm the switch is complete yet, although logging into EDF says my service has been withdrawn, but they are yet to receive meter readings from GBES so haven't produced my final bill.
Anyone know how much longer the switch will take, and when EDF will likely be informed? I thought it'd be a little quicker TBH.0 -
Contrary to the details notified in the collective switch comparison GB Energy do NOT currently support the Warm Home Discount although they say they are in talks with the Government and to ring in a couple of weeks for an update.
I know this won't affect everyone's decision but it may be important for some.0 -
Arranged a switch 6 weeks ago. Didn't receive welcome park and had to chase it. Electric switched after 4 weeks or so. Gas failed to switch over. Did not notify us. Tried again and failed again after chasing it up. Now paying old supplier and GB Energy for both fuels. Advised would only get refund if I call back Monday to check Gas had gone through this time and if I provide photographic evidence to show I have paid both bills. While I'm it at it, would you like me to wipe your bottom too....? Terrible customer service, long wait to get an answer and couldn't sound less bothered that I'm now paying double without any explanation why.
Avoid if you can. Will pay significantly more to avoid this again in future.0
