Everthing now done and dusted with the transfer from EDF to Gb Energy . The only problem was that I did not know what to expect or how it worked and a word of warning that if a pensioner like me you could end up pay both companies with in a month from your pension. The time it took was another issue . I started on the 19th Feb and completed on the 19th April before it was all done and dusted but the savings are worth it.

Well, I'v just had an alert from the Cheap energy club saying I can now save around £130 by switching back to Sainsburys, think I'll go.

GB haven't been too bad, but the set up process was, frankly, shambolic. The website still doesn't work properly for me - I can easily enter meter readings but have never been able to update my Email address. Bills are received promptly and seem to be accurate. The call centre staff have always been very polite and cheerful, even if they didn't always succeed in what they promised.

Wonder how switching away from them will be?

Is that the 'true' or 'inflated' saving? I have my electricity from GB and it is the cheapest on the market.

    Edit:

Moving to the best deal with Sainsburys would cost me £45 per year more than my present £630 annual energy cost.

I don't know what 'true' or 'inflated' savings are.
I do have an odd usage profile - marine reef aquariums in the house mean I use way above the average amount of electricity.

Strangely, it seems that GB energy actually get cheaper when my fixed tariff ends next February. But still not as cheap as Sainsburys by a long way.

Ok - let me explain. If you are on a fixed term contract with less than 12 months to run, then Ofgem insist that the cost of your energy for the NEXT 12 months is calculated on this basis:

Say, 1 month, left on current contract plus 11 months on the supplier's standard variable rate equals cost of energy for the next 12 months. This calculation results in inflated energy costs.

If you then look at another fixed term contract, then the savings are the inflated cost less the cost of the new deal. It follows that the savings are also inflated.

The only way to compare is to look at your annual cost today in kWhs/year and compare it to the cost of all fixed deals. MSE CEC website provides this calculation.

If you still have issues with this, then post your annual projection in kWhs plus your post code, and someone will help,.

If I stay with GB Energy and did nothing the price would drop when the fixed term ends (Next Feb, from "Fixed 12 - Emerald" to "Premium Energy Saver"), so the calculation actually results in a 'deflated cost'. If that's what you call it.

So, no issues here. The MSE CEC website gives me a £130 saving plus £30 cashback. Seems good to me.
Also, the fix runs until May which I think is better than Feb as it avoids changing suppliers during a high usage period.

I am still confused. GB Energy's Premium Energy Saver is a variable tariff so it isn't fixed in anyway. If the tariff changes, then your bill just goes up or down. If there is an increase, then GB is required to inform you so that you can take action. I am still not sure how you are calculating your savings? Have a look at separate suppliers for your gas and energy. I am with Zog and GB and as I said earlier this gives me a £43 per year saving on Sainsburys.

Same experience here I have pretty reliable annual usage data and all the comparison sites tell me Sainsburys will be cheaper. Better still as its just British Gas by another name I bet their website works even!

    Time for an update...

Billing seems to be OK. After several weeks they have now fixed the website so it correctly shows my previous readings when logged in :T I got it sorted by communication with GB via Facebook as it was easier to send screen captures, trying to explain on the phone was hopeless.

So sticking with it for now. Looks like the real problems may come when you want to leave though, their Facebook page is littered with people that want their final credit refunded and are apparently fobbed off with excuses.

  • I'm posting this as the thread looked unduly negative about GB Energy and I thought people might be missing out!

We switched in November 2015. We use gas and electricity with normal meters. Everything has worked really well with the website and the bills have really clear information. We have never needed to contact them by phone.

I have submitted readings every month which I realise most people would find a pain but I don't think this is mandatory as they always estimate for the last few days of each month anyway.

Finally, the saving over our previous supplier (Atlantic aka SSE) has been more than worth it. They have lowered the tariff twice since we switched.

To summarise - I would recommend GB Energy for two reasons 1. the price and 2. the clear bills.

    Cheers
