Advice on car insurance

Hi Everyone,
It is the first time I have posted on here but I wanted to just double check an issue going around in my head.
I currently have been running a 1.4 fiesta flame for the last 6 months since passing my test last august. I am 24 and working in publishing.
I currently have a policy with Aviva. Its around 1400 a year for fully comp. However I did have a bump in November and the car has lost traction going down a left hand bend that was going slightly downhill. There was leaves all over the road and mulch almost but either way the car ended up in the other side of the road and an oncoming vehicle never seen me quick enough. Both driver sides were bumped and it was a mazda 3 2010. His air bags went off but mine didnt. I never claimed through my insurance as my car was cheap enough to repair. I am sure he most likely claimed on my insurance though and i don't think i could afford to buy back the claim.
So, this car was repaired and its been costing me more and more money each month with issues going wrong and needing to be done, as does a car of that age. I am sure the VSS is on its way out so I want it swapped. My parents have advised me just go for a car thats new and wont cost you anymore than it does to pay for it a month that will be more reliable. "You work hard so spend some of your money on yourself" as they said.
So, I have put a deposit down on a fiesta zetec s, 14 plate that I can afford. My insurance actually works out about 30 quid cheaper a month with my current policy amended, but of course on renewal this could all change. I am hoping it wont too much, but I am scared it will rise by thousands.
Do you think my insurance will sky rocket or that I should still shop around on renewal? The car is about the cheapest new one for insurance and tax around at the moment, so I am hoping this will help. What do you all think. Do you think I could end up in trouble?
Any thoughts or advice appreciated!

You need to work out for definite if your insurance paid out for your accident in November and how much. Did you inform your insurance company of the accident even though you didn't claim?
Once you have this information go on a comparison site and see how much insurance will be if your renewal was say the 22nd feb instead of when it really is. This will give you an good idea of how much of a hike you could expect.
And you should always shop around at renewal.0 -
Well, having phoned Aviva this morning, they have informed me they still have not heard off the third party, which I find is odd.
Looking at quote me happy it comes up, with the claim, at 1100 for the year with the new car details in. So its not bank breaking. I should be ok, but very odd not to have heard off them at all.
As I am fully comp, will I have to also pay my excess if the third party claims?0 -
You only pay your excess if you claim for your car to be repaired.0

Thats good news then.
One thing that seems odd to me is, my insurance company hasnt heard a thing from the third party insurance at all. Aviva (mine) sent off all required info but still nothing as of today r.e. any outlay etc.0 -
Maybe recovering from their injuries or milking any injuries they may have got or injuries they were persuaded to have.
You should always shop around at renewal and make sure your current insurance does not auto renew unless your happy with the price.
The claim will still need to be reported for upto 5 years though.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
See from what Aviva have said to me, is that the longer they leave it the less Aviva will accept liability or the amount etc.0

Here is a question, in this case, what will happen to my no claims come renewal?
As I have not claimed for my own vehicle, and as it will be my renewal coming up, what if they havent heard by the time of my renewal?0 -
You need to ask your insurer. (Different insurers have different policies over how long to "reserve" NCD pending a claim from a third party)
Irrespective of whether or not a claim is made you do have to disclose the incident to any other insurers you approach for quotes. Most want your history over 3/5 years0 -
Surely if the third party's airbags went off, his vehicle would have been immobile so he would have wanted to present a claim sooner rather than later?0
