  • Hi

Don't worry too much, your debts aren't huge. With cutbacks you should be able to clear it quite quickly. You need to remember to leave yourself enough to live on though - that's essential otherwise you are in danger of sinking further into debt.

Good Luck- you can do this.

whenever people think I’m crazy, I know I am usually on the right path. icon_wink.gif
Downsize my wardrobe ..not including shoes tho

    To clear out tomorrow
    1. Anything with shoulder pads, even if they are making a comeback.
    2. School jeans that haven’t buttoned since school.
    3. That formal dress you bought for one occasion.
    4. Your ex-anyone’s anything.
    5. Christmas sweaters.
    6. Things that are ripped, broken zipped or have holes that aren’t supposed to be there.
    7. Pieces you can see through unintentionally ;P
    8. Those super cute shoes that you can’t walk in without looking like a drag queen
    9. Sentimental items that make you sad probably because they don't fit
    10. The warm coat you don’t wear. Someone needs it more than you.
    11. items that don’t fit now and never will..
    12. Clothes you are saving for painting, gardening, rags
    13. Pieces that need to go to the tailor that never get to the tailor.
    14. The expensive dress they said you would wear again, and you know you won’t.
    15. Hats you don’t wear even though everyone says you look good in hats.
    16. Ill-fitting bras. Feature your features :P
    17. Bags - You only need one of every colour ** this is my weakness
    18. Clothes that don’t belong to you. Give them back.
    19. Anything with a weird mark /or smell that won’t wash out..eeeewww
    20. Clothing or shoes that leave a mark or blister because you are in denial that your size 7 feet will fit into size 5 boots
    21. Scarves that don’t go with anything you currently own and you brought because it was in the sale for like 2 quid ..
    22. Clothes that don’t allow your underwear to be under :P
    23. Anything you have to squeeze in to.
    24. Clothes you bought on a whim that you won’t wear where you live.
    25. Trousers that are longer /shorter than they are supposed to be.
    26. Shirts that are tighter than they are supposed to be.
    27. Sequins and sparkles i.e OTT - prefer simple and subtle.
    28. Anything with a wine stain that won’t come out...
    29. Guilt items. If you spent too much for it, dump the guilt. You’ll keep paying for it in time and attention if you don’t let it go now.
    30. Multiples. Just because it looked good in cream doesn’t mean you need it in every colour. One is enough.
    31. The top or bottom of a suit. They aren’t sold separately for a reason.
    32. Clothes you can pet, brush or sticky roller and they still look just as bad
    33. Gym clothes that don’t go to the gym!!!

  • I have found you as you posted elsewhere so stalked you to your diary

I would suggest that you join some of the challenges - I have joined a few as you see the progres with those you will be so motivated - motivation is the hard thing - you do so much at the beginning of your journey - make sure you dont run out of steam

I have a few issues that mean sleep is so hard to come by - have you tried meditaion or creative visualisation to help you relax at night - there are loads of free things on the net that might help
for me simple breathing meditation helps me get to sleep - one thing not to do at bed time is use any screen apparently they stimulate the brain so if you do want to read before sleeping use a book not an ereader
I have a diary on which I often post what meals I have and am cooking very frugally
going veggie will help cu costs as will a slow cooker put a casserole with veggies and beans on and it will be ready for dinner - make two days worth and anything left can be made into soup to take to work the next day that is two days meals and a lunch that will cost you very little indeed

good luck on your journey and remember not to set your self a target that you cannot do as it will be so disheartening - perhaps allow yourself an extra month to complete your targets just so its more manageable - and remember its lent very soon so give up something you usually buy - biscuits? = and pop the money away for a day out - it oesnt need to be expenive take a picnic and a book and take the bus to the nearest open area and sit on a carrier bag and eat lunch and read a book but its a day out and will relax you and do you good
    Hx
    Emergency fund £10,000

    Cars, house maintenance, birthdays
Etc I have about 10 categories

Really happy to be debt free after being a compulsive spender

    Hi

Please can I borrow your list?! I've got 6 things ready to put on eBay - which have been ready for about 3 months now!

Give it a few months and some of your debts will be gone and so the others will come down quicker! But (this may sound corny - apologies) if you hadn't had your LBM things may still be going up rather than coming down, so even if your progress isn't as fast as you'd like, you're doing great! (Ok, definitely sounded corny!)
    Debt as at 5 June 2023 - £15,600.89
    Current debt - £6,535.00
Total paid off - £9,065.89 (58% paid off)

    Hello Sam,

I found your diary. We have a lot in common I see. Although I do feel for you being at the stage where your debt gets you down. I've been there and know how debilitating it feels. You're doing so much better than I did though as I just decided that money didn't exist in the real world and I had this feeling that I needed to quickly spend all my money before someone else tried to take it off me! A terrible attitude as it was rightfully other's money!

You should give yourself a lot of credit for actually looking at your financial situation before it became dire. I really hope that once you start seeing the benefit of being frugal that the excitement will follow.

Regarding charity shopping - a friend pointed out to me that she visits financially rich areas once in a while and scours their charity shops. She gets gorgeous designer label items for pennies! She hasn't spent more than £2 on an item yet (brand new with label) Sadly her rich area is the same as mine, so I'm waiting for her to go on holiday so I can pinch her idea and turf!!!! :D

    Happy Shrove Tuesday :)

Oh, also, I take lots of my old treasures into Cash Converters and I feel that I get as much money there as I would on eBay or boot sales when you take fees and convenience etc into consideration. For me, just getting something for items is better than having it take up room in my house.
