Ok... Today is an oKay day ..been reading the threads ..Esp Old style
Cleaned whole place - is tiny so not a huge feat to be honest, washing on, a little remote work finished to ease my life very slightly next week...
Need to "flylady" me from head to toe and dry washing ..which thanks to the lady who sold me her Compact Tumble Dryer for £20 and a new vent hose fleabay £5 ...will be a breeze ...happy days ..
4.5 Kg Baking Potato's yellow stickered to ooops last night for 78p so happy with that ..that will keep me alive for some time....
Bed changed and brand new sheet feels wonderful ...god knows why I had saved that and just put in the wardrobe? anyway a good find in the things I already own but forgot I had shop...
In the spirit of "being your own best friend" I am going to try to rest where I can ..although for me rest ...is in the non existent dictionary under Holiday, lunchbreak and next to Dream on...
Really Grinchy today for no reason other than this self spoilt brat is avoiding the shops...
Sold my designer belt and jacket ..as that is not my life anymore so pretty sad about that but paid debts off a little more with the cash so worth it in the long run.
Thornton has some good easter offers on eggs ..so am tempted but I had not budgeted for and plus by the time I finish talking my self into and out of it Easter will be over ...:)

Hello Sam
I've followed Nora and MT and Aaleigha over here and just wanted to well, second most of what they've said really:T
Oh, and to say that people find different things motivating so give yourself a little time to find out what way of doing things works best for you. Some people like to put everything to the debt and watch the DF day come forwards, others balance out the debts and life-in-the-meantime. Bit like some people won't keep chocolate in the house and others among us panic without it
I had a spreadsheet through most of my journey and found it really helpful - it meant I could plan a couple of months in advance and also reshuffle if necessary through the month. It also means you can set things up in a way that works entirely for you - for example, I ran mine from payday to payday. Happy to send you an example if that would be helpful.
Keep plodding - you will get there (I just did and I wouldn't have believed it when I started either!)

I found you again
I forgot to subscribe before
waves to everyone
you have done SO well since I last posted (page two I think)
do make sure you have some quality of life - DH and I treat ourselves like a debt and give ourselves an allowance every month without fail
we each have 50quid to do with as we like - mine tends to go on hair and other bits a coffee in town etc his goes on tobacco and beer - and what is left over seems to end up with me
but we have just a bit to get what WE want it enables us to have a bit of a life - I know I am debt free but at the end of january we were over drawn now we are not - but that is due to very frugal living over the past two months
you are pushing yourself so hard so make sure you have some fun along the wayEmergency fund £10,000
Several categories with savings in
Cars, house maintenance, birthdays
Etc I have about 10 categories
Really happy to be debt free after being a compulsive spender0 -
Hi Sam, I've read through your whole diary and I think you've done a marvellous job from the beginning to where you are now, and in such a short amount of time too ! Brilliant work :T
Have you sorted out a spreadsheet yet? I now use YNAB but I just downloaded one from the internet before using that one. Something like this: http://www.vertex42.com/ExcelTemplates/monthly-household-budget.html

Is anyone else stuck on Rosa's post where it says some people don't have chocolate in their homes?
WHO ARE YOU PEOPLE?!!!! And are you ok?!!
While we all ponder that, back to Lovely Sam (as you shall henceforth be known):
I, for one, think it's blooming amazing that you've cleaned the place - doesn't matter how small it is.
Don't laugh (oh, ok, snigger if you want to), but it's literally just occurred to me this evening that cleaning your home is a really basic and important form of tlc. It's a little epiphany for me as housework is in no way a talent of mine - but I've just cleaned the bathroom and smiled like a loon all the way through.
And isn't new bedding the *best* treat?! Plus love, love, love the "things I already own but forgot I had shop". Genius!
I'm so sorry that work is so horrid. Please, please, remember the importance of tlc - when work is smelly, then make time outside of it to be good to yourself. Read a book, listen to your favourite song, dance around the house, put faces on your new mountain of potatoes and form a choir - just do whatever makes you smile and hug yourself. Because you're wonderful, and worth that time, and no job can take that away from you.
Much love and hugs
Nora. xx0 -

It includes my mum and she's fine :rotfl:Knitting_Nora wrote: »Don't laugh (oh, ok, snigger if you want to), but it's literally just occurred to me this evening that cleaning your home is a really basic and important form of tlc. Home blessing :j I think Sam has already discovered FlyLady(who is a genius, and I don't know how I would have got through the horrid-work-plus-MSc phase without her).

I was also thinking about this as I've been decluttering this afternoon - love it. I think The Forgotten Shop has many branches :rotfl:
I shall now think of you both every time I get potatoes out for dinner and it will be entirely Nora's fault if I sing to them :rotfl:
'Nother hug from me

Hello lovely,
That's not a falling off the wagon. At worst that's your system rebelling against the recent restrictions and if your rebel time amounts to £7 then you are far further along than I am today!!!!
I'm sorry work is so rubbish. I completely know how that feels and how much it can bring you down. Especially when a lot of us have used some retail therapy to get us through - and chocolate!I also found that the more I did the more was put on me, and the pressure from managers never let up. It's what they do to feel like they're being managers. In my company, it's really not about the work, it's about showing authority. So that's helped me deal with it.
More ebaying and fly lady work? - oh the shame you all put me to!Fresh bedding is the best! That always feel like a reward to me!
I hope you're having a lovely weekend. MTx0 -
I wish I could find one of my "falling off the wagon" posts to show you £7 is nothing :rotfl: In one particular post I'm sure I spent over £700 on furniture
instead of using the windfall to pay off debt. However so long as you get back on the wagon that's all that matters. Don't beat yourself up because that usually leads to thoughts like "well i've blown the budget I may as well just blow it some more". Once you become aware of what you are doing and stop yourself after one slip that's when you know you are becoming a MSE finally (and believe me it took a while for me to learn that lol).
Hope you enjoy all the lovely food you're going to treat yourself with today! xMORTGAGE BALANCE when we moved Aug 2024, £120,000. January 1st £118,267.06. £7 is not too bad at all! If that keeps you away from bigger shopping splurges and gives you sanity- it's money well spent!
