Transporting hat on airplane

On my last trip through Heathrow I saw several ladies wearing 3 or 4 hats in order to get them through security......
It was their other hand baggage that caused problems, not the hats.0 -
From this morning's Telegraph:
"To add to all this air travel gloom, one of the villains of the piece - the Spanish-owned BAA - has heaped further misery on the British public by imposing a restriction of one piece of hand luggage per passenger.
As Giovanni Bisignani, the head of the International Air Transport Association, pointed out this week we are the only travellers in the world thus restricted and it does absolutely nothing to improve security."0 -
I spoke wth my flight operator who confirmed that I may only bring one piece of handluggage.
I will take the hat box and OH will carry my handbag (with his book in it too).
thanks for all your replies.r.mac, you are so wise and wonderful, that post was lovely and so insightful!0 -
Sounds like you have it sorted.
Just wanted to add that a small handbag might fit inside the hat within the hatbox ...0 -

Yes journalists are either lazy and cannot be bothered to check, or they have an ulterior motive.
It still doesn't make BAA responsible for the one bag rule.0 -

The current rules are patently ludicrous and cannot contribute anything to our security.
On a recent flight from Birmingham it became clear that, in response to the TV programme showing security staff asleep or skiving, they had decided to play games with security. There was a woman screening what you had before the actual security screening, telling you what you needed to do. In our case this was for MrsS to put her handbag in her holdall, and me to put a carrier containing our lunch into mine. After having my bacon sarnies X-rayed we simply reversed the process in the area where you get dressed again. I had taken off my belt, and watch, but kept spectacles, coins and wallet.
It was painfully obvious that the staff were trying to make it look impressive, but in terms of actual security it is a joke. When you look at the quality of staff they employ it is hardly surprising.0 -

I am missing your point. IATA are just pointing out that the UK is the only country with a one bag rule. Nothing at all about the one bag rule being made up by BAA.0 -
Is the UK the only country with the one bag rule? I fly internationally more times a year than I care to count and every country I've been through seem to be enforcing the one bag rule. Just wanted to add that some airlines will give special dispensation to wedding guests for luggage.0
