I think there is a perception among people who organise house shares that females are better sharers - I certainly never had any difficulty in finding a shared property but all the men I know who have looked at sharing went to a lot of viewings/interviews but were rarely if ever offered a room.
As for issues of having 'visitors' at house shares - some sharers won't mind at all and others will, so it is best to ask a question at the outset to establish what the ground rules are. I know some people who share and have a house rule that you can have an overnight guest x times a week. Provided you've established some ground rules and follow them it shouldn't be a problem.
From a legal perspective, assuming it's not a lodgers agreement, but an actual tenancy. OP can have as many guests as he wants, as often as he wants.0 -
did everyone have an en suite? lol if i could get an en suite room in a house or flat share that would be amazing. how likely is that though? i am not really a fan of sharing bathrooms as you have to rush too much. i think i may be sounding a bit too picky though.
It varies. If you were sharing a fairly modern, 2 bed flat, for instance, you might well find that there was one 'main' bathroom and one bedroom with an en suite, so that each person gets a bathroom to themselves, at least most of the time.
As with most things, there will be a pay off - a room with an en-suite will generally cost you more than an equivalent room without. You will have to decide what your personal priorities are - e.g. location, quality / amenties of the room/house, price - you are unlikely to find a houseshare which gives you everything (cheap rent, good landlord, nice room with en suite, good location)
I would suggest that you stat lookign at ads for house shares near you and start to get a feel for costs, and for what is avialable. All posts are my personal opinion, not formal advice Always get proper, professional advice (particularly about anything legal!)0 -

It's a bit like going for a job interview. You size them up (and the house) and they size you up. Try and meet the other housemates and have a brief chat if possible to see what sort of people they seem. Ask about whether they spend time together (or not). Ask about cleaning/lack of.
You will find some houses of students, some of young professionals, some of all men, some of all women, some party houses and some studious houses and some in between. The trick is to try and pick one that will suit you (and one with a cleaner for the communal areas if possible, unless you are happy to do all the cleaning yourself if you don't like their mess).
Keep viewing until you find the right fit.
To start with you will probably be signing a 6 month contract, after that it will either go onto a rolling contract or your landlord will ask you to sign for another fixed period. If you did turn out to hate somewhere, worst case scenario is that you are stuck there for 6 months or you have to move back home for a bit, but some landlords are happy to release people if they can find someone to take their place/let you out of the contract early if the place will be easy to relet.
