i have been very tempted to flat share or house share, i am just not sure about living with strangers. as sad as it might seem i don't really have any close friends due to various past circumstances so sharing with friends is not an option.

one other reason for wanting to live on my own is i would like the privacy to bring women back to my own place. with sharing a place with housemates i dunno whether i could do that without causing trouble with other tenants.

hence why sharing would be a great idea as it will give you the perfect opportunity to make new friends! it's the key to a whole new social life (coming from someone who shared for 10 years between the ages of 17-27)

and of course you can bring girls back, you won't be sharing a bedroom with anyone! as long as you're not sharing a wall with your flat mate and you bring home a screamer! :rotfl:
  • I flat shared for about 10 years, various places with strangers and friends, as it was the only way I could afford to save for my own place. Having vistors shouldn't be a problem, I found people were always coming and going especially in larger house shares, as long as you don't move anyone in it should be fine.

Having said that if you are now living with parents, even on a low wage you should be able to save a decent amount, if you arent it might be a good idea to go though your finances with a fine tooth comb.

I did have a tidy little bit of savings put away for a rainy day but unfortunately I lent money to people and I made a mistake of lending it to the wrong people, and this is mainly the reason I don't have friends any friends or trust anyone.

I am trying to save again though. okay, no I would not move anyone in . I was just worried about that as sometimes people can get a bit funny about guests visiting. granted I have never shared with strangers so that's just a presumption.

How much is the deficit between wage and rent? If it's really not achievable then house share is certainly the way to go.

one thing i worry about is sharing with people who i won't get along with and then it becomes awkward. did you always get along with your housemates ok?

    lol a screamer haha
  • I moved 2 hours away from the house I shared with my sister for a job and I now live in a house share. I came and viewed the house and was shown round by the chap who moved out I then decided I'd have it and never met the other girls until I moved in... I honestly thought I'd hate it but I really enjoy living here!

I pay a bit more as I have an en-suite room but it's a really homely house and everyone just does their own thing and it's pretty cool..
    HTH

did everyone have an en suite? lol if i could get an en suite room in a house or flat share that would be amazing. how likely is that though? i am not really a fan of sharing bathrooms as you have to rush too much. i think i may be sounding a bit too picky though.

it is probably achievable, but i would need to keep a really strict budget and i would need to save up a decent amount beforehand, and it most likely would not be in a desirable area.

i am going to try to find a better paying job soon and i'm already looking around because there is no moving up in my job as it's agency work.
  • @buzzybee90 haha i know i was just a bit surprised that it's possible to get an en suite room when sharing.

Most modern houses usually have one bedroom which is ensuite, so it is quite possible to have one, but you have to expect to pay more for it than the other sharers without an ensuite and of course it is the least likely to be the one which is vacant as it is likely that one of the existing sharers will move in to it.

What about advertising in the local rag for house share? There's bound to be lots of similar young people in your locale in the same boat.

I was lucky enough to share with female and male mates in the 70s with my female workmate who was buying a 3 bedroomed house in Peckham and needed the extra income from the rents to help pay the mortgage. Life was good then and probably a lot easier.

Now I'm in the Philippines and renting a 2 bedroom apartment with a beautiful view of the mountains for about £300 pm.
