I moved 2 hours away from the house I shared with my sister for a job and I now live in a house share. I came and viewed the house and was shown round by the chap who moved out I then decided I'd have it and never met the other girls until I moved in... I honestly thought I'd hate it but I really enjoy living here!

I pay a bit more as I have an en-suite room but it's a really homely house and everyone just does their own thing and it's pretty cool..

  • In fairness, in my house share days, I didn't like having a stream of strangers at breakfasts/sneaking out the house in the morning courtesy of my housemates... so I chose to live by myself after that!

That denotes the place belonging to one girl.

"Girls' place" would be more than one. ;)

I know (proud to be a grammar geek), I was referring to him calling them girls - like they're still 16 years old ;)

I'm 24 also, and currently live with one of my parents, after moving back home when I graduated last July.

I've been paying off debt, saving up, and will eventually start looking for a house-share sometime this year.

I'm on £25k, and couldn't afford a 1 bedroom property where I live (West London), so a house share is pretty much my only option.

Some independence is better than no independence. Good luck. :)

@tomtomton i didn't mean to sound like a player or anything by that :) but i am fed up with relationships after a bad experience so i just prefer being single now and i like women/girls (not sure which word to use now lol young women 18-30 or older ha)

@ellesbelles yeah i can imagine that would be a bit irritating. i have stayed at friends before and heard him and his gf going at it in the next room and it can be annoying specially when you are in an empty bed lol.

i would definitely exercise some respect for others in these situations especially if it meant leaving in the morning with said person.
  • I flat shared for about 10 years, various places with strangers and friends, as it was the only way I could afford to save for my own place. Having vistors shouldn't be a problem, I found people were always coming and going especially in larger house shares, as long as you don't move anyone in it should be fine.

Having said that if you are now living with parents, even on a low wage you should be able to save a decent amount, if you arent it might be a good idea to go though your finances with a fine tooth comb.

@browneyedbazzi i have heard that women are messier in fact. i don't know if this is true, but it's just what i have heard.

I don't think there's any 'in fact' about such generalisations - some women will be tidy and easy to live with and some won't be. Some men will be tidy and easy to live with and some won't be.

I think there is a perception among people who organise house shares that females are better sharers - I certainly never had any difficulty in finding a shared property but all the men I know who have looked at sharing went to a lot of viewings/interviews but were rarely if ever offered a room.

As for issues of having 'visitors' at house shares - some sharers won't mind at all and others will, so it is best to ask a question at the outset to establish what the ground rules are. I know some people who share and have a house rule that you can have an overnight guest x times a week. Provided you've established some ground rules and follow them it shouldn't be a problem.
Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!

I think it's you that is wrong - my mates, and I, still refer to our 'girlie nights' and we are nearly pensioners...lol

You can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset. ;)

I work away from home during the week and have found some great shares from Spareroom.com

PS Re nighttime activity, thats why they invented corners on duvets, they make convenient noise muffling devices.

House sharing would seem to be the way forward. Many, if not most of us, have had to do it when first leaving home.

If you don't fancy it then the alternative is to look really closely at your finances with a view to saving more so you get to a point where you can afford to buy or rent.
