Done my introduction. Got to do my 30 questions now. Feeling rather nervous! Does anyone know if anyone has failed on the first review ie after the first 30?

I was like that Doodledo. Just take your time, read the rules, and check, check and check again before submitting.

Help, I'm confused over the Self-employed form from the tax office.

I've never been employed so have no idea what Tax refernce number to put in.

Also, what do i put as my position in the buisness? sole trader? Sorry I'm totally dim about all this tax malarky.

I assume as I'm on benefits (SDA- which allows me to earn £86 a week without changing my benefit) that I won't have used up my tax allowance so I won't pay tax if I earn £86 a week (nowhere near that at the moment.)?

    Any help, very gratefully received.

The easiest thing to do is to phone them up and they will fill the self-employment form in for you. They are really helpful and it only takes a couple of minutes, much easier than having to work it all out yourself. The helpline number for newly self employed is : 08459 15 45 15 (open 8.00 am to 8.00 pm Monday to Friday and 8.00 am to 4.00 pm Saturday and Sunday).

If you receive a non-taxable benefit, and your only other income is earnings of less than £86 a week, then you are right that you wouldn't have to pay tax. But you will still have to fill in a tax self assessment form each year, so HMRC can work that out for themselves.

I was dead nervous too, it took me a while to settle my nerves and hit that start button for the first time. I did a couple then stopped, then went back a little while later. After a couple of goes, your confidence goes up. And don't get too hung up about skipping, as long as you've tried your best at researching.

One thing I strongly recommend, go through the advice and tips on ego questions, sign up in advance to the suggested sites and put all the links in a seperate folder in your favourites. I got caught out, and wasn't ready for my first ego question, and bombed. Another lesson learnt!

In fact, it's a good idea to keep a link to just about any site you find that's useful, and perhaps share your find with the researchers group.

Stay calm, and have fun, jayneuk!

Does anybody know how strict they are on the 48 hrs response window? Mine is due back this evening but working full time with other commitments in the week it's not a generous time allowance!

And yes I'm free at weekends to actually answer any questions if I can get the application done!

For me, they didn't mind. I received my test on the 19th November but what with one thing and another, I didn't get to post it back until 26th November, I think it was.

Got a reply the next day saying I'd been accepted. :)

 I had the same thing! I think this question is definitely in there to test how well you can cram info into 153 characters. You just need to get the key rules to the game, and leave out some of the minor rules.

    Best of luck!
