Wednesday 4 February - What small DFW things will you do today?

When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free.

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending .

So be proud of those small steps, they really are important.:money:

Savvy Shopper! I've been Money Tipped!
    Morning All
    Hi Ziggy & Tash
Today is a spend day. I'm off shopping first thing and will be bringing my shopping list & the bags I need to avoid paying at Lidl well and I try not to accept plastic into my home if I can at all avoid it anyway.
As yesterday was a big cleaning and tidying day I should have more free time today for reading. I am trying to finish 2 big books and will hopefully spend an hour today solidly reading.
Hope you all have a good weds.

  • Morning All, Thanks Ziggy for starting the thread today. Ive been so busy the last week or so that debt busting and keeping myself on track by coming on here hasnt been going too well.

I bought episodes of a TV show from Amaz*n!! I cant believe I did it- Im so angry. I was in a hotel and the TV was rubbish, I could have waited to get home and watch the show but Noooo... I had to watch it then. Such an idiot! It was only £4 but still. I will NOT be doing it again.

Today lunch and dinner is paid for by work. I am having left overs for breakfast.
Still liberating loo rolls from hotels (as well as any tea/coffee left over after my visit).
Tonights hotel has a gym. I did think of using the swimming pool and gym but am feeling a little under the weather. Such a waste of a great freebie!!
I need to convince the guy training me to start letting me book the majority of hotels so I can boost my cashback and work towards my free nights.

    Good luck today everyone.

Ah ThreeLlamas don't beat yourself up. Just try harder now!

I meant to add to mine that I have enough Mr T points from wombling to get a free pass to a theme park which my son loves. Now we need to hit enough to get 2 adult ones in the next period. Once we've done the we will book a zipcar for the day and go have a day out on T's :)

    Debt-free and Proud!
Morning all - thanks to Ziggy for starting us off.

Low key day for me. Will be a NSD as I have plenty of food and fuel.

Need to update YNAB now all my bills have come out and my rental income is in. The feeling of my bank being in credit after so long is just lovely. I keep checking it because I like seeing a balance without a minus in front.

I've paid £150 off the credit card this month, so need to update my signature. There's about £1323 left now. 4 pay days to clear it before the interest kicks in. Since £650 has gone on debts this month, it's as good as gone (hope I'm not tempting fate!)

Pondering joining a gym. I'm trialling one at the moment and finding that I'm working so much harder there than I can do at home. I'll have to give it some more thought.

    Happy Wednesday everyone!

Aww threellamas, don't beat yourself up, we're all allowed to have blips and it's not easy being in a hotel (been their done that in a previous life) - I never thought to liberate anything in those days either so you are doing a lot better than I ever did. Keep up the great work :T it really is the "small things" that make the biggest differences

  • Morning all!

Sorry, having been in Manchester over the weekend it's been a little while since I was last here. I did, of course, overspend in Manchester but not by as much as I could have done. I also let myself buy a wake up light alarm clock which was reduced from £40 to £15 as I felt that was a bit of an investment purchase and I wouldn't see one so cheap again. Gradual light is a nice way to wake up, and it doubles as a lamp with 18 light settings and an FM radio. So I don't feel too bad about that.

This is an expensive week as I both paid the dreaded £210 for my next lot of driving lessons and used the last of my driving lesson money savings to book my test. However, because I had planned for the expense I am able to manage it I think. What a difference a fortnight on MSE makes!

As for DFW things for today:

-Check OnePoll and Free Postcode Lottery, although I am a bit cross with OnePoll as it only let me do one survey out of 9 yesterday.
-Eat packed lunch and not canteen food
    - Low spend day as I need some bread at the very least from the shop later. Haven't managed a no spend day this week but should be right back on track next week.
    - Check second hand uniform box at cubs to see if we've had donations so far
    - Check money dashboard in case of unexpected expenses
    - Checked the trainline for tickets through topcashback to see if I could get cheap tickets for my holiday. Unfortunately the advanced tickets seemed to have all gone in the past 2 days (how?!) but I can now budget the purchase of an off peak return into next month.
    - Freezer food for dinner.
February No Spend Days Target: 10

Money to pay for 10 weeks of driving lessons: £75/210
