  • I think you are absolute spot on :) it's probably like buy and sell rates for currency pairs

    Unless I'm very much mistaken, the dealer price is what you would expect to pay for that car from the dealer, not what the dealer will give you.

    The dealer offered £1645 :( {WBAC=£2245 (bought for 13000 in 2005) }
    I still don't understand why the dealers only offer the part exchange price :( I am sure there is a reason :)

    Could be your dealer is working on a couple of grand on/in each car.

    He'll have to budget for fixing a few things etc but will want to clear at least £1k off your trade in.

    Could be a good point of haggle with whatever you want to buy. If the car doesn't owe the dealer as much, there might be wiggle room.

    That is if it is a small trader. If it is Arnold Clark or another big chain then your car is basically being sent to auction and they really don't want it.
    What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?
  • I am just trying to sell the car, but what you say makes a lot of sense :)

    I think it would make a lot of sense for me to keep it :) but I am trying to let the property, so if I were to let it without parking, then that would cost roughly another £50 per month (the tenants will have to do without parking space, which lowers the rental by about 50)
    BTW how did you arrive at £1.34 a mile :) am I being thick :)

    I took the price you paid for it (£13,000) less the WBAC offer (£2245) which leaves a £10,755 depreciation. If you divide that by the numer of miles (8000) you arrive at a figure of £1.34 - your depreciation per mile. Hope that makes sense.

    This is true, or you have lost £1075.50 per year in depreciation or how ever you decide to work it out, once you sell it.

    I think you should put it on the ebay or autotrader at a reasonable figure and go from there, no point it selling it at trade money with this mileage.
