    The dealer offered £1645 :( {WBAC=£2245 (bought for 13000 in 2005) }
I still don't understand why the dealers only offer the part exchange price :( I am sure there is a reason :)

Difficult one to price as there are no Civics of this age with that mileage.

Put it up for £5,000 and go from there, the market will decide the value.

Thats because they will sell it on at a profit, its what motor traders do.

If you drive to the dealers and walk away with cash, that would be a quick and easy sale but it will cost you.

Sell it privately to get what its worth, its a bit more effort.

I would put it on Autotrader for around £3,500. I am sure it will sell for over £3,000 if it's in good nick.

TBH, 8000 miles on a 9 year old car is not a great selling point. I wouldn't buy a car of that age with such a low mileage; I would rather have a car with average mileage. Cars need to be used. The lack of a service history after year 6 would also be a huge no-no.

If you were to accept the WBAC offer of £2245, the car will have cost you £1.34 a mile in depreciation alone! Wouldn't it be best to keep it?
I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.

fully serviced the first 6 years but not after that,

    Not even an oil change?

  • Lots of oil changes etc, but I was assuming officially recorded services! :)

  • I think it would make a lot of sense for me to keep it :) but I am trying to let the property, so if I were to let it without parking, then that would cost roughly another £50 per month (the tenants will have to do without parking space, which lowers the rental by about 50)
BTW how did you arrive at £1.34 a mile :) am I being thick :)

If you have done an average of 66 miles a month for the last 10 years, I would say get a taxi or hire a car when you need one.

    for your valuable advice.
Just got a call from a dealer, but he is offering me the part exchange (=trade in) price, when I clearly want to sell it!!! there is a huge difference,
from what i can see on glass
    Trade in =1645
    Dealer price =£3,530
the difference =£1885 , so he is offering me less than half the price, when I don't want to trade in :(
or have I got this thing confused?
    TIA

Unless I'm very much mistaken, the dealer price is what you would expect to pay for that car from the dealer, not what the dealer will give you.
  • Absolutely true :) as you can see, I didn't think it through when I bought the car :( my parents were there and just wanted to drive them around, on the positive side it's probably priceless because I got spend some quality time with them, also the fact that my dad passed away just 10 days ago :(
