Any Huddersfield Commuters to Bradford-best time to hit m62 in am & routes/parking?

Will check out Wigan Street Afzaal-thanks. Also cootuk will try wakefield road (set a 'via' point on sat nav). Looking at the cost of parking in Halifax & availability it 'might' be better in the short term to drive early-& see if anyone wants to share maybe from Hudds at a later date.
Afzaal-assume that area is fairly safe? I only have a 10 year old diesel vauxhall with a virtually impossible to hack thatcham immobiliser (factory fitted)-don't think my car will be of too much interest lol (!). And is there a time when it's full or a best time in the am to get there?
Thanks SO MUCH-what a nice bunch on here. My new job is better paid but if possible want to keep costs down as much as possible. I have looked at the bus option but the time aspect outweighs in many respects the saving (I 'think' there is a 40% reduction on cost of metro cards from work-not sure).
All I need to find now is a cheap curry house nearby for an Asian breakfast (I'll have seekh kebab ANY time & LOVE curry!)!0 -
Ok....so google maped it & wakefield road is a RIGHT turn at the big roundabout at the top of the M606?
Afzaal....google earthed Wigan streeT-all seemed single yellow lined to me-am I missing something? However google earch showed ashton street/paradise street as free parking-any thoughts?0 -
I would put more effort in to your alternative routes than where is a good place for Breakfast.
The M62 is at total standstill usually twice/ three times a month and I mean total standstill, if there is a crash it can be most of the day , unless the boss does not care what time you get to work, find the other river crossings and alternative routes ASAP.I do Contracts, all day every day.0 -
my mistake about the train - apparently its 14 minutes now to bradford interchange from halifax. It did used to be 8 minutes - they must be slowing the trains down to save fuel!!
There used to be a car park near the hand car wash on south parade near the train station that was only a couple of quid for the day - not sure if it's still there or not. I think parking is free at the train station too - limited spaces though.
If your near new hey road getting to halifax should be quite quick - through outwood, stainland, west vale. You also have the option of parking at sowerby bridge station and getting the train from there to Bradford.0 -
Rob7475-thanks-will have an explore & try & find the £2 car park-also the free parking at Halifax Station I beleive has only 35 spaces? I wonder if the car parking is easier at Sowerby bridge? A trip out in the next few days I think! Halifax is 10 mins by main road from me-I guess via stainland might be a bit quicker?
Marktheshark-if I left early enough-say 7-15am-do you think Bradford via Halifax-then down through Queensbury to city centre would be a 'safer' alternative to the M62 in the morning?0 -

I used to park there when i went to college, i normally use to get there about 8:15 and had plenty of parking space but during the day you will most likely not find any parking space.
And regarding theft of vehicle, dont leave anything on display and nobody will break in to your vehicle. On google streetview i can see new cars parked there.0 -

Afzaal1988, Thanks again! Went for an explore yesterday & did see Sunbridge road a few mins out from city centre had free on street parking. I also went up Wigan street (must have been wrong end as could not see any free parking?), Ashton Street/Paradise street-PACKED with cars! Any fire engine getting up there would be scraping those cars lol (!). A friend of mine used to police that area & he said not 'that' safe if it's dark there-any thoughts?
Agree-Sunbridge road seems a good bet. Worst scenario is the fulton road £3 car park or NCP Southfields (reduced rate of £3), so if I come into Bradford via Sunbridge Road if free parking then a bonus-if not then £3. At what time do you think I'd need to be in Bradford to be sure of a fee space on Sunbridge Road?0 -
