Any Huddersfield Commuters to Bradford-best time to hit m62 in am & routes/parking?

Hi all, will be working in Bradford soon & live top end of Huddersfield (not far from Ainley Top roundabout so close to M62). Will be working in central Bradford & start at 0845. Have found parking near the centre IN Fulton Street (BD1 2LZ) which is 4 minutes walk from work. I did look at public transport/busses/trains but will take ages! I don't mind arriving early & having a coffee, etc. Also what do you think the best time would be to leave Bradford (I think I finish work around 4-45-5-00pm but again would happily wait a while).

Is there any advantage of going in via Brighouse? Or...rather than taking the sat navs route of the ring round past the Craven Heifer pub-down to town centre directly past media museum-carry on crossing Great Horton Road & 'loop round' that way (past Haq's Asian Supermarket)?

If I programme the sat nav from the top of the Motorway at the big roundabout(m606/m621-can never remember!) to take 'shortest route'-are there any back roads that can speed things up?

Probably a silly question but is there any safe, free on road parking within 10 mins of Bradford City Centre?

Any advice would be great!

I've never done it in rush hour but one of my friends lived in Manchester and commuted to Bradford until he was made redundant last year, and found it a bit of a nightmare. I'm pretty sure he left home very early to beat the absolute worst of the traffic, but hated the journey anyway.

Now that would be a nightmare commute lol (!). off peak I've done it in 25 minutes without going super fast on the motorway.

drive to Halifax and get the train - will take 8 minutes by train.

M62 is awful these days from ainley top right through to Gildersome.

But M62 is nothing compared to having to negotiate the streets of Bradford. I worked their for a few years and had to drive all over the are visiting clients - I'd rather take my chances in Baghdad! The roads are full of uninsured drivers, people looking for an easy compensation claim, drivers who will stop anywhere in the middle of the road to talk to their 'friends' while passing small packets to each other (no idea what they might be doing lol).

If you value your car, don't leave it anywhere unsecure in Bradford city centre.

I wouldn't park all day on the street in Bradford as too many people looking for an easy target, especially in that area - very close to red light district as they ply Grattan Road.
Even the NCP car park was being hit by thieves and these are usually a safe-ish option.

There are some P&D car parks opposite the Forster Square retail park, but that means paying. We only ever park in Forster Square or the p&d opposite.

The M62/M606 are unreliable - Chain Bar roundabout is a major logjam both in and out. Manchester Road just has too much traffic at rush hour too.
But best route might be M62-M606-Rooley Ln-Wakefield Road and accept delays on the motorway. That gets you to rear of city, and avoids Manchester Road, but you hit Canal Road.
The problem is the ring roads are just too full of logjams like Manchester Road and Canal Road.

Going Brighouse-Bailiff Bridge is slow moving.

I would get public transport rather than drive daily tbh

2nd Robs suggestion and get train from Halifax, the roads around Bradford are hideous, I went to an interview before Christmas for a Job on the outskirts of Bradford, based on my commute going to the interview for 9am I had already decided I didn't want the job.

If you do drive get your self one of those cameras to protect yourself as the scams are very prevalent, on the way back from the interview I had 3 different cars slam on their brakes for no good/obvious reason ;)

Guys-thanks SO MUCH-will look into the train from Halifax. Wow-8 minutes....by train-fast or what. I lve within walking distance of New Hey Road (near Salendine shopping centre/Sainsbury)...just need to work out financially if best to get bus to Halifax or pay & park at Halifax (fancy that option as quicker).

Did not know there was so much crime & 'compo' crashes. I do like Bradford-I find it's got a good vibe (& fantastic Asian Supermarkets-Pakeeza is the business & SO CHEAP)-but there are bits that look a bit rough (sorry-no offence to Bradforders!). Thanks a lot-this has helped greatly!

Cootuk-I assume Wakefield road is the road carrying on AFTER the right turn at the Craven Heiffer pub? That was my thought as well. There may in the future be secure parking on-site where I work if I carshare but the train at 8 minutes looks good.

There isnt really THAT much, but certain ethnic areas area well known for uninsured drivers, lack of driving skills, cash for crash, carjacking
  • You can park you car on Wigan street off thornton road(put that in google maps) its only 5 minutes walk or 0.2miles.

Regarding "uninsured drivers, lack of driving skills, cash for crash, carjacking" I have been driving for 8 years in bradford and none of these things happened to me, there maybe few uninsured drivers but isnt that the case in other cities too?
  • The problem you have is there is only 3 river crossings.
Brighouse Town, M62 and Cooper Bridge
In the event of the M62 standing and it does at least 3/4 a month and all other road crossings block up as well as people bolt over.
I do Contracts, all day every day.
