Mums parking ticket (Britannia parking) for transposed reg number

My mum has received a 'parking charge' from Britannia for 'failed to make a valid payment'

Luckily my mum had kept her parking tickets and I looked at them and saw she had transposed the last 3 digits eg. Reg is ABC she typed in ACB. She is elderly and not good at machines and technology.

She has received a parking charge for £85 reduced to £50 if paid within 14 days etc....

Now what is the current advice? Should we appeal? Should we just ignore? I know she will panic a lot if she gets fake threatening letters through the post though and with a severe heart condition I worry about that.

Any advice gratefully received.

Was this a Britannia owned car park?
or does the car park belong to someone else who has allowed Britannia to infest their land ?

unfortunately you havent mentioned which country this was in (yes it does matter)

read the NEWBIES sticky thread at the top of this forum, above your thread

follow the advice for your country

assuming its england or wales, appeal it with the template , adding a further point that THE DRIVER (do not admit who the driver was) made an error and you have attached or enclosed a COPY of the parking receipt. Tell them to check their ANPR records and then to cancel the charge , as per the BPA CoP which says they should have checked for this type of error before issuing the parking charge invoice

I repeat, do not mention who the driver was, or is

none of this I DID THIS or I DID THAT

    hope that helps

I don't actually know. I think it is owned by the shopping centre that it is attached to. It's the sovereign centre in boscombe, bournemouth if that's any help.

Is it worth emailing the template letter or doing it by snail mail?

follow the instructions on their paperwork

if in doubt , snail mail with free certificate of posting at the PO (keep this safe along with the original parking ticket that was purchased)

if by mail, enclose a printed scanned copy of the paid for ticket

if by email or online, attach or upload the scanned copy (or photo) of the paid for ticket

not many allow email, its usually online or snail mail

Whatever it says on the Britannia letter. Do it 'wrong' and they won't tell you at the time; they'll just let you time out and then tell you 'Oops, too late!'

If it is by snail mail, get a free certificate of posting from the Post Office. Do not use 'Signed For' (previously known as Recorded Delivery) as often PPCs refuse to accept - and you the have proof it wasn't delivered - so signature.

    It says in the letter

'If you wish to appeal this Parking Charge Notice you must write to us, by post or email as per the address at the bottom of this notice, detailing the reason why you believe that the notice has not been appropriately issued'

Your call. You could do both if you want to take a safety first approach.
