    If anybody can name or give feedback on these, that would be great.
    Like Wayne - before I had data monitoring built in, I used 3G Watchdog, which did more than I ever needed.
    Well, there's 'save' and 'save'
    Sorry, yes I should have mentioned that it uses mobile data whilst you're out and about - not much though to be honest. If you run it at home for it to load the map over WiFi you could save most of the data too.
    You're missing out on all the phone if your tariff doesn't include data!

    Well let's look at some of the stuff that's been recommended
    3G Watchdog for keeping track of data usage.
    Then viber for cheap internet calls to other viber users

    Webpages:
    http://www.weq4u.co.uk/ gets you though to phone numbers including pricy ones (0800, 0845)without queuing.

    It measures how much data you upload and download over the cellular network - as in not WiFi. You can set your data allowance, the date it resets, and warnings that it can give you to tell you when you're close to, or have hit, your limit for the month.
