It is fibre to the premises direct from the exchange, a fibre cable is fed into the property.

If you switch your router off overnight then apart from any reduction in speed things like anti virus and windows update won't happen at times that are suitable and won't inconvenience you.
But they wouldn't update anyway unless you leave the laptop or PC on overnight .No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

I didn't think these speeds were possible!!
Is it PlusNet fibre and do they need to make a hole in the wall to send the cables in or is it over the phone lines?

FTTP (as opposed to FTTC) has very limited availability. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
The router and exchange equipment optimise the line speed between them and as said it can take up to 10 days for it to stabilise.
If you keep turning it off then the whole cycle gets repeated so it's best to leave it on. Most routers go into a low power mode if there's no traffic on the line.Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0 -
is it worth putting a very long ADSL cable on for the first 10 days to trick the exchange into boosting your speed or will this not make much difference? We’ve had to remove your signature because your opinion differs from ours. Yes, of course but grateful for the clarification. Why wouldn't someone want this to happen? It can't be for the electricity saved and the computer can be on standby with the monitor off.0 -

Should i complain?
FTTC here not FTTPCensorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
