Hi, does switching off my Talktalk router at night affect my fibre speeds?
I usually get 30+ mps download but reacing 6.2 mps at the moment. The equipment has been checked and the lines too..
Just wondering about turning the router off when not in use.

The exchange end learns the profile of your line over 10 days initially , not sure if turning off affects your profileEx forum ambassador

My BT fibre modem and Netgear router have not been switched off for over six months, the amount of electricity they use is minimal and the speed stays rock steady.0

Yes switching it off every night at the plug will affect your profile and reduce your speeds. The exchange basically interprets this as a line drop. What you can do to prevent this affecting your speed is log into your router and disconnect your connection before switching off every night which would be a real pain for the sake of saving approximately 2 pence worth of electricity every week.0

I get 59meg but it is dependent on the quality and length of the line

Thanks, I think it's habit rather than being frugal.
So how long will it take to rebuild my speed if I was to keep the router on all the time, any idea?
and, can the exchange increase the speed for me.
The engineer came out on Friday and fond nothing wrong with my equipment or set up. Apparently they have run a line test and that seems to be working ok.
Maybe line tests can't 'see' the speed, just the 'flow'.

It will probably take up to 10 days. If you keep the router on, the exchange equipment will detect a stable line and automatically adjust accordingly to the max profile speed it deems stable.0 -

73Mbps download 20Mbps upload, ISP is Plusnet using a BT modem and Netgear router on FTTP.0 -
If you switch your router off overnight then apart from any reduction in speed things like anti virus and windows update won't happen at times that are suitable and won't inconvenience you.0
