No one said it was easy - but it was not impossible as you bought. In London half the city now rents - do you not think more would buy if it was indeed affordable for your average joe on average wages.

Average house price over £500know - median wage £25k. Think on - there was certainly not such a disparity even in the 1970s!

But hey - they just need to stop buying those £300 ipads. If they didn't buy 1,000 of them they could buy a one bed flat in Walthamstow!

As I said there was no way I could buy in outer south west London North Surrey earning equivalent of £35k.

For what's it's worth I think people in the 20s are worse off now but that is more to do with job prospect than house prices.
  • It was only 3 yrs ago when we bought, so it's pretty much exactly how it was in my day, I can't afford to live in the most desirable parts of Cheshire, so I don't, guess what? that's where most of my work is..... Tough titty, learn to ride a motorcycle or get used to public transport, sick of whiners crying about how hard they have it.

Don't have a holiday for 3-5 years or live with your parents a little longer to save for a deposit, because I promise feeling sorry for yourself achieves very little.

Jeez acorn, people deserve a bit of a life as well. It's not right if people have to work loads of overtime and never have holidays etc just to buy a home.
While I'll never say everyone should be able to own a home, I do think that people who work hard (without having to do loads of overtime) deserve the opportunity to buy a home.

I know loads of people who spend very little time with their family because they work so many hours to pay for 'that' house. We only have one life why can't there be some quality without people having to be slaves to work.

But as a boomer I continually told how easy I had it but that's is exactly what I had to do.

I know, It's a sacrifice some people are willing to make though, now we're on the HPI gravy train our Mortgage is considerably less than the comparative rent.... :T

You'll get there one day, tbh honest for us it wasn't so difficult, we saved for a year, got married after exactly 12 months after buying the house, now we're holidaying twice a year to the Caribbean.

Horses for courses really, some people like to moan about their chosen course though.

Utopia does not exist (it didn't for me anyway), the sooner that you accept this, the quicker that you will realise what you have to do, to get to where you want to be.
Chuck Norris can kill two stones with one birdThe only time Chuck Norris was wrong was when he thought he had made a mistakeChuck Norris puts the "laughter" in "manslaughter".I've started running again, after several injuries had forced me to stop

Don't worry about me acorn I'm fine. I would just like more people to have the opportunity to buy a home without having to work themselves to the bone.

Make the most of the holidays now acorn because it will be caravan holidays in Bognor or Skeggy once the little critters come along.

If you want more people to have a home then the only answer is more building. The population is rising and households are smaller.
I'd like everyone to have an easier time but globally speaking Uk people are incredibly lucky to be born in the uk.
I do think empty homes that foreigners own in London is an issue though whilst normal people have no choice but yo commute. I believe Camden makes a charge and their % of empty properties has reduced.
Homescin london should be used to house natives not as assets for foreigners.
I realise ordinary folk cannot afford the ultra expensive properties that the sheiks and oligarchs own but we all know there is a trickle down effect.

Sky News says about a 1,000 people turned up. The Guardian says there were 2,000. The other 8.3 million Londoners found something else to do.

Sadly, the revolution has been postponed due to lack of interest. Normal service will resume shortly.
