Okay guys, ds has brought a letter home from school and he needs to go in fancy dress as a character from a book next friday for book week :D He has a couple of shop bought fancy dress out fits (policeman / builder) but I want to make him something ;) I need some inspiration and help !!!

So far I'm thinking along the lines of one of the Mr Men or Charlie Bucket as he loves Charlie and the Chocolate Factory dvd (was thinking normal clothes and then make him a bar of choccy with a golden ticket ;) ). He would love this but I don't think it would be as instantly recognisable as a Mr Man. Anyone have any other ideas?? He is only 4 so he's not into Harry Potter or anything like that yet. He does also love the Snowman so I could send him in his pj's and dressing-gown :rotfl:

what about mr happy? a big yellow cardboard face, die on an jumper or tee shirt yellow and same with trousers and a pair of yellow marigolds?

Grr to the buildings ins though, if it is a leasehold property the llease owner is liable unless it is split between the flats. Do you pay ground rent? if so check if this covers the buildings ins too. Also ask to have sight of the policy details and quote as £140 sounds incredibly expensive if divided fairly between the flats.

    Glad you're ok though...

Thanks Pania ... like the sound of Mr Happy, have had some good ideas but not sure whether many would be practical as ds would have to wear it all day
I have looked through the paperwork for the flat and its as clear as mud  We pay ground rent and a service charge, although I haven't paid any yet this year ... I paid £200 service charge on completion in June and it says that is for the whole financial year and I also pay ground rent of £175, again was paid on completion but no bills since. I do put £40 away each month towards these costs but have no idea if that is a realistic amount. The problem is we dont have a management company, just a landlord and there is nothing to say what the service charge covers. I do have a copy of the buildings insurance which apparently is covered until the end of Feb. The letter I received says I owe my share from June 2007-Feb 2008. There is no mention of any insurance costs to be paid in any paperwork that I can see. I may knock on the neighbours door tomorrow and see if they've had a letter too.
If I do have to pay it then fair enough but I need to know what my service charge covers and how much it will be ... the only mention I could find basically seems to say the landlord will bill us for service charge as and when needed ... hmmm, helpful huh!!

or all in red with "thing 1" or "thing 2" in a white circle and spiked up blue hair - I love the Cat in the Hat! I do like the Charlie Bucket option though as it sounds very simple, don't know if I could send my DS to school with a real bar of choccy though and expect it to still be there when they were showing off their costumes...

Oh dear! Mr Bump? Doesn't he need a bandage? That could be good.... The insurance situation sounds ridiculous - for my apartment, its certainly paid by the management company - your idea of contacting the neighbours sounds like a good idea, good luck.

  • What about sending DS in his normal school clothes, BBaM?

Finally got a minute to sit down and post !!! Its been hectic today ... I picked ds up from school and we went straight off for his swimming lesson which went really well, and then had a quick bite to eat and then off to his school disco :D He had a great time but it meant we didn't actually make it home today until 7:30 which makes it a stupidly long day for him  :o:o I think we'll probably give football a miss in the morning or he will be shattered as he's off to his dads this weekend too.

Postie was kind to me today, he brought me a £10 John Lewis voucher that I ordered from Pigsback and also a cheque for £50 from Itsyourview surveys :j :j That will be paid in tomorrow morning at the bank and will help the mortgage fund ;):D

Haven't had a chance to see the neighbours yet about the insurance but will try and see them over the weekend.

I am going in to school for a few hours on sunday to help get everything ready for our inspection next week  I get paid for the overtime so it will help the £10 a challenge too ;)
Tomorrows plans include .... going to the bank, returning library books, getting at least 10 things on ebay and a trip to the farm shop. Off now to catch up on some other threads :D
