In my mind, my life is a beautiful Lakeland catalogue....reality....not so much. Hence the pillowcase :rotfl:
I have a special pillowcase which I have sewn a zip into. How sad is THAT! (And very unlike me!) :rotfl:
Mr JM used to have his own business servicing domestic appliances. He really knows washing machines, and isn't that keen on my bras going through the system even in their bag! :eek:Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).0 -
You won't believe what I spent in Lakeland recently!
In my defence it was things like velveteen hangers, and multihangers for trousers, the sort where the bar swings out, and overdoor hangers. You see, I am trying to resolve my storage problem a bit.
After months of waiting, I finally got some jug/bowl covers......the lace sort with bead edges. These are to cover my bedside water jug and glass, to prevent dust particles etc. They had sold out last summer, then weren't in stock until two weeks ago!(I just lurve spiders!)

Now that is organised! I just tie a hairband round mine0 -
Every summer I have to talk myself out of the beaded covers. I like them, I would just drop them in the jug.

That did make me laugh... I have felt like that since my mid 20's ... I have been middle-aged for a very long time!:rotfl:0 -
I've always loved Lakeland! But I was a bit of a middle-aged teenager!
I can feel my anxiety creeping in ATM. I've been through a lot of change at work in the last couple of months and just been managing to roll with it and not let the anxiety take over but there's a chap in my team leaving on Wednesday and it's fallen to me to take over his job (on top of doing my own) until/if they find a replacement. This involves a lot of people 'just popping through' to see me about things they want doing now, which I hate as I'm very precious about my personal space. They're also invading it through constant e-mails and instant messages! If I told my manager that virtual personal space is a thing and it's stressing me out she'll think I'm a right nutter!
Felt very frowny and tired last night which is a huge warning sign for me but don't know what to do!

Birdie - how do you get on with your manager in general? Do you feel comfortable speaking to them? I really think that your concerns are valid, constant emails etc are really disruptive to a lot of people.
Obviously I have no idea how your work is set up but there are probably things you could do to help the stress - can you change the status on your IM at all? We can set ours to do not disturb which is great as then people can't contact you. Maybe you could have an arrangement where your email/IM are off for an hour in the morning/afternoon (or whatever suits) so you at least have some time where you know you'll have some peace.
Hope you have a nice weekend planned0 -
Hugs Birdie. Can you have a word with your line manager about your workload if you're not coping? I know what you mean about having people popping up to see you, especially when you're already busy. Luckily I mainly do work for people on a different floor but there are always people coming to talk to the woman who sits next to me and if she's busy they hover behind my chair. I hate people standing behind me.Eu não sou uma tartaruga. Eu sou um codigopombo.0

Thanks girls. I do get on well with my manager but I just worry about pushing things IYKWIM. When we moved into this office (went from a nice open-plan office with people I like all around me (but not too close!) to an old server room with one little window, a leftover server whirring away all day right behind me and only 6 people, 2 of whom I don't really like!) I made a bit of an issue about not being able to handle it and put the higher-ups in a bit of an awkward postion as moving me would have meant moving the whole team and there was no-where to go so I just sucked it up and went with it, it's not too bad until more people come in to see the others in here and I get a bit panicky so make my excuses to leave!
As for the workload, I have made my worries clear and she's aware but I've been told to 'do what I can' for the time being as it's apparently temporary... but that doesn't help the people who need me to do the work for them as it still needs doing, nor do we have any idea of how long is temporary! Then there's the worry about people getting a bad impression of me because I'm !!!!!! at my job! Blegh.I do keep blocking off times in my calendar but people ignore it and IMs still come through whether I'm showing as away or DND or whatever, it just pops up in my e-mail if I haven't responded after 10 minutes! Bl00dy technology!

I agree with having a word with your line manager, Birdie. I would at least say that IM is only to be used for emergencies and email for everything else. Could you say that you will reply to emails at certain times so that you don't have to keep being disturbed?
I went to sleep at 10pm and was woken up at 12am by a Cluster Headache. The nasal spray does reduce them to a dull throb but it only lasts a couple of hours and then I need another dose. I am shattered but can't lie down because that immediately makes it worse. Electricians may descend today, I am really hoping it is next week because they need to cut into the wall to place a hot water switch and my head might just explode.
