Check the MPG against other owners results here.

If it's massively different then there could be a fault with the car, your driving style or both.

Try driving it like a nun and see what results you get. When I travel with my daughter in the car I get 10-20% better economy than when I'm on my own. Radio 2 has a similar effect too. :o

Yeah I've checked it there and I'm getting better than the average so its all good in that respect. I've been trying to take it easy but the car is very fun to drive and taking it easy has been quite difficult. That's why I think my MPG will improve over time, so I'm yet to give it a proper eco run. I s'pose its not that bad.

Which engine did you have and what type of driving do you do?

    It's the 1.4 170 Quadrifoglio verde.

Work is a 25 mile commute along little back roads but I do go out driving from time to time just for the fun of it, that tends to be where my MPG suffers.

Yeah, can't see anything wrong with the MPG, sounds better than average.

If you're concerned about the gearbox, pop in to AC and ask them to have a look before you put too many miles on it.

I wouldn't hold out much hope for AC and customer service
  • Good luck with Arnold Shark mate biggest bunch of cowboys in the UK. Do a forum search on here for arnold clark. Some of the horror stories make very interesting reading

My son works with them. So i wouldn't buy a light bulb from them let alone a car. They are known in Scotland as Arnold SHARK. Owned by a wee weed called Arnold Clark.

There is a website called arnoldsucks.com 74 pages of the most horendous mis selling, incompetent workshops , ignorant sales staff and outright liars.

Arnold has spent a fortune on lawyers trying to have this website shut down.

He advertises in every paper in scotland including local town rags. Anyone who runs a negetive srstory about his company get the adverts withdrwithdrawn

So everyone save yourself a lot of grief go anywhere exept ARNOLD SHARK

However, as Europes biggest, independent, motor trader the sheer volume means that most of the cars will be fine. Just a pity his first family are so thick he is unlikely to ever retire.
  • I know AC have a bad press, but I bought my wife's Saab 9-3 from the Newcastle Ford dealership, and to be fair to them, they were OK.

Was the cheapest for its spec/condition within 100 miles, they did everything they said they would prior to collection (brake pads, couple of tyres, new battery) and gave me some money off their 'fixed' price as well as half a tank of diesel.

After purchase I went over it with a fine-tooth comb and took it back to them for some work to be done under their three-month warranty. Invoice value was well over 2K for the work:

    New inlet manifold
    New manifold swirl valve actuator
    New water pump
    New timing belt + tensioners
    New bottom radiator hose
    New O/S/F headlamp

Yeah, they weren't exactly *brilliant* to deal with, but they sucked it up and got on with it. Even gave me one of the sales blokes' Foci to rag around in for a week.

    Hi

I bought an Alfa Giulietta diesel from AC last year and had a similar issue with the gearbox. I was told that 'it's just the way they are' and, after 14 months and 25k miles I can say that, in my case, the clunky nature now feels normal and selection problems have now gone.

My car was 3 yrs old but with only 15k miles on it. I think due to all the stop start town driving it had done over short distances the gearbox may not have been bedded in properly.

In terms of fixing other faults, I found them to be a bit difficult but if you stay patient and firm then they will put right what is wrong - I had to have the turbo replaced under warranty.

I also took out Autocare and am now having the cost of a cracked egr cooler covered under that.

    Stay calm, stay positive.
