Aren't Bicycles Great.

I look forward to the clocks going forward as it means no lights needed for the bulk of the ride, in some ways it's good riding with lights as you tend to worry about the track less and just crash over stuff. On the other hand though it's a pain setting up the lights and I've been going for lower powered self contained lights this year to save faffing with battery packs. Plus on a fast downhill section last week the impacts through the bars were hard enough to trigger one of the lights to change mode.
I really need to get my riding sorted as I've barely ridden properly since January after a tough 24 hour event which has damaged my confidence in the bike and subsequently I've not been enjoying rides with it. I had a good ride on Thursday night aside from one near miss on a tree root though which I really needed to clear my head, you realise how much cycling does for you mentally when you stop doing it.

I went out for my first "long" ride since August last year. I done around 22 miles. First 11 miles were really easy and was loving it. The 11 miles back i discovered way and the wind was against me.
Not a problem for you fit people here, but i was struggling a bit the last 4 miles or so.
Terrible average speed as well at 10mph. Last summer i managed 12mph and that was over around 35 miles.

I've not had much luck with my cycling recently. I'm still waiting to replace my damaged Cannondale from last September, so I'd been using my winter bike, the Whyte cyclocross, until the front fork was broken in a pot-hole 5 weeks ago. I quickly replaced that with a mail order Canyon road/cyclo-crosser which arrived 3 weeks ago, The same day I fell while carrying some shopping into the house and landed badly on my ribs. I was convinced I'd broken them but doc said just bad bruising.
So, first day out today, only 28 easy miles. Enjoying the new winter bike, I think I'll use it for all wet and wild days, and keep the best bike (when I get it) for sunny days and sportives.

Sorry to hear about the ribs accident but good to hear you're back out again. How quickly did it take to get the Canyon?
I'm very close to pressing the button on this bike:

I want something that doesn't look flashy, aluminium frame, internal routing, mudguard mounts and Shimano hydraulic brake discs. Unfortunately I can't see this Pinnacle in the flesh as there's no store near me, there's also no Treks that match what I'm after which is my preference as I've a good local bike shop.
The Pinnacle is £60 off for an undetermined time and my current Trek 1.5 is needing a new rear wheel (the braking rim is finished), cassette and chain which I'm not keen on spending money on. I've fitted mudguards to it as I thought I'd make do with it but the front mudguard is irritating, the clearance is really tight so there's a lot of noise from the front which is irritating.

The Canyon took two weeks to arrive John, but it was in stock, so there was no waiting time for it.
The Pinnacle is very nice, it compares well with the Canyon which at £1399 has Ultegra drivetrain and and Shimano 785 hydraulic discs. It too has an aluminium frame with carbon fork, which is what I wanted for a winter/poor weather bike. The website has it at 8.2kg, but it is 8.5kg without pedals.
It feels very sturdy and rides over bumps and ruts very quietly. I like the Conti 4000 28m tyres on it - very comfortable with no loss of speed.
I'm tempted to wait for Canyon to bring out their Sram Etap equipped Ultimate CF for my Sunday bike, although I think there'll be huge demand for it.Make everything as simple as possible, but not simpler.0
