What happens to these children when they grow up and aren't allowed to use toys and have to do work with proper computers, or worse, have to write down stuff and add up sums.
Why are they dumbing down children?
The same people who buy apple stuff are running the schools.

Our local school gave kids tablets a couple years back without us knowing, so kid comes in from school and pulls a tablet from his bag. First thing was 'where did that come from' and the reply 'school gave me it' well first thing in the morning i called the school saying that he had brought a tablet home if they were missing one, only to be told ' its ok its his tablet, all kids have been given 1 to help with school work'
I just wonder how much these cost the education system0 -
How is giving kids access to IT kid "dumbing down"?What happens to these children when they grow up and aren't allowed to use toys and have to do work with proper computers, or worse, have to write down stuff and add up sums.

Computers, tablets, and the Internet are huge enablers of learning!0 -
Personally I don't see what the fuss is about. When I was at school, we had tablets free too, they even threw in the chalk, and if you were lucky it would miss your head.0

But it's worth even more than that...I agree, as you look now, what jobs are not technology lead these days.
The world is all technology lead now.
I remember having to go to the library and search through an encyclopaedia for information (or wait til someone returned it), use log tables, and so-on; all of which were quite time consuming.
Now you can get the info straight off, which means you've more time to figure out what it's all about.
Similarly in writing & drawing, I remember tracking pictures, writing pages of long hand and using tippex to correct things.
Now you use a word processor and cut & paste (maybe upload your photo from your tablet/phone. That is a much more reliable way of getting things written. (And if you submit it electronically then you save trees too.
So even the basic learning stuff is technology augmented, and for the better!0 -

Office 365 on Android tablets is still in preview/ testing modeAre you sure about that?
That was correct when I wrote that... but Microsoft have just taken the Android apps out of Preview mode and released them. See this blog item dated today.Jivesinger wrote: »Well the link saying it was in Preview was from Microsoft's own Office.com website, on a story posted within the last week, so it's a fairly definitive source.

Worth noting the system requirements from that blog:The current system requirements for Office on Android tablet are: devices of screen sizes 7 inches or larger (a device with screen size greater than 10.1 inches will require an Office 365 subscription to create and edit), with an ARM based processor and 1 GB RAM or above.
But also note that Office for Android tablets doesn't seem to be ready yet for Intel-based Android tablets such as ...er... a Hudl2
Microsoft is also committed to supporting Android devices with Intel chips via a native implementation that will be available within a quarter.
Edit: But in response to the OP, as long as you have an Android tablet that meets the requirements (note there's something in the requirements about which version of Android you need as well) I suspect that a version of Office designed for Android will be a much more pleasant experience than Office on the Windows 8.1 tablets will be, as that version isn't optimised for Windows tablets. I think Microsoft are working on a version which is more Windows-tablets-friendly but it's some way off I think.0
