How do I get closer to daughter?

I can empathise a little. My DD is nearly 8 and I also have a 5 year old boy. However my DS is easier to love somehow? He has always been loving and cuddly wheras my DD was a very difficult toddler who I used to find drained all my energy! Even now, she is lovely in her own way but very independant (and super clever too), she somehow doesn't need me and i have to often ask her for a cuddle. I try and tell her how great she is as often as I think of it, in order to show her I love her in other ways. However, I do feel concious that DS seems to be up on my knee etc lots of the time and I hope she doesn't feel left out. Hopefully I am going to try and get some girly time in with her over the summer.0
