Ford Ka or Volkswagen Up!
I am still trying to decide what to buy to replace my old Ford Ka that I have owned for ten years and have now whittled it down to the following:
Ford Ka Studio 64 plate with delivery mileage £6,495
Volkswagen Take Up! 14 plate with 1000 miles £6,500
Also quite like the look of the new shape Hyundai i10, but it is beyond my £6,500 budget.
I have only owned Fords - Fiesta's and then my Ka for decades, but have read good things about the Up.
Any comments/opinions greatly appreciated.

Seat Mii
62 to 13 plate 6-8k miles FSH should be around £5k-£6k
skoda Citigo about the same price and miles.
VW up priced about £500-£750 higher than its sister company models it seems.
citigo-mii-up all the same car different badges BTW0 -
I really, really hate the up. I just think it looks vile. I just bought a 59 reg fiesta titanium and LOVE all the gadgets. I find VWs are a bit boring on the inside and like the funk of a ford0

I was about to buy a Seat Mii last year, but it feel through at the last minute. Have been told that out of this trio, the Up holds its price far better than the Mii and Citigo.
Have been reading on Honest John today that there have been some problems with the gearboxes in these cars:eek: Has anybody else heard that?Stopped smoking 27/12/2007, but could start again at any time :eek:0 -

This is the only thing that puts me off the Ford Ka I suppose, the fact that it is basically a Fiat:( Having said that, in the reviews it would appear that Ford have created a far smoother ride by tweaking the suspension.
Do think it is a very cute looking vehicle:)Stopped smoking 27/12/2007, but could start again at any time :eek:0 -

Fiat are not without problems, nor is the KA.
I don't think youd see it holding its price if you traded in, private sale possibly but a part ex trade in I doubt it.
I would be looking for one with all gadgets and gizmo's (Mii AC SE) or something like that which is worth just above the equivellant of base spec VW up. you get more for less essentially due to its brand name.0 -

And? I've owned 14 Fiats since 1978 and with the exception of 3 (which had minor faults), they have turned out to be good cars. My current one is almost 15 years old (bought it new in March 2000) and still drives more like a car which is less than 4 years old. If your'e referring to the recent "can't climb hills" press reports, then this has been resolved with a soft wear up grade to the engine management system. Fiat conceded that the settings on SOME versions were set too sensitive to reduce CO2 emission.PLEASE NOTEMy advice should be used as guidance only. I suppose it is all down to if you have had a bad experience with a certain make.
We had a Fiat Mirafiori circa 1980 and it was the biggest load of unreliable carp we have ever had the misfortune to experience in all our years of car ownership. To say it put us off anything Fiat is an understatement.Stopped smoking 27/12/2007, but could start again at any time :eek:0
