Can I ask you all-knowing NSD'ers a moneysaving (sort of!!) question?!
When you pay for something over the phone and they don't take your card security number, can they process the payment????
I've booked a hotel for a wedding in April (as mentioned above!), my family who've booked already thought it was pay on departure & we provide card details purely to secure the booking, but the woman I dealt with said it was pre-pay. But she didn't take my security code. Am I right in thinking she therefore can't process a payment anyway???
(It's a moneysaving question as I need to know whether to budget for it now or later, later would be better!)Debt Free I FFEF I Building Savings I 2025 Plan:- Regular Savings £8,200/£10,000

Yesterday was another spend day for me.
Got up thinking it could be an NSD.
Then I received an email telling me the brand new price for a DVD box set I've been watching had fallen to the exact amount I was prepared to pay for it second hand including postage - and buying that along with another that had sent me the same notification a couple of days earlier meant free postage, meaning new for max I'd pay for used. Put both into my basket, thought about it, and took them out again as I've plenty of DVDs to watch. NSD retained.
Phoned opticians (having problems with new glasses, and now cold's cleared I need to trial some contacts) and got an appt for the afternoon. While killing time before I booked in I spotted some temporary tattoos in their 90% off sale, so phoned DD to check she wouldn't mind me giving them to GD1 and GD2 for Christmas (at £10 they'd have been a huge chunk of their present budgets, at £1 they're a 'filler' item) and got the OK - and for GD3 as well. So that meant I lost my NSD, but for a good cause in my eyes
I then treated myself to some naughty danish pastries from Cost0, which I think I'd have managed to walk away from if I hadn't already lost my NSD
And when I got home I ordered the DVDs seeing as I'd already lost my NSD
Have spent the last hour hovering over the 'cancel order' button while it's still available, but have decided that I'm not going to. The sets have never been down at that price before (not even second hand), so it could be a looooong time before they come that low again. Biggest problem at the moment is that they're each just 1 series of a TV show (2 different shows), and there are later ones for one show plus sets I don't have for 2 other shows I'm collecting at the same low price...... and I need to step away from those given all the unexpected repair bills I'm currently getting!!
Latest is my tumble dryer. It's been on the way out for a while (takes faaaaaar too long to dry things), so I asked the people who are coming to look at the combi tomorrow about having that looked at as well. £45+vat as labour charge, and then cost of part !! Looking on line it's either the thermostat (which I might manage to pick up for around £20) or the element (looks to be £40 or more), so not really worth fixing as I can get a brand new 'seconds' from a shop down the road for £99. I hate the thought of replacing something that could be repaired, but as it's 8 years old (as best I recall - could be 9) it doesn't seem worth spending all that money to repairNot rushing to replace it thoguh, as I don't use it much this time of year (bedding and bath sheets only) and barely at all during the warmer months (towels if very hot out, as we hate the 'crunch' they get from being line dried when it's like that). I suppose I should ask OH if it's something he might be able to look at (he qualified as an electrician at college, but hasn't kept certificates up to date as not relevant for the job he's been doing for years), as it's the labour charge that's the real killer.....

(Meanwhile, halfway up Kilimanjaro......) Who mentioned bongos? Just had a text from Swedish Chef. Amidst all the hurdy gurdy chicky wicky bork bork bork stuff it seems the Good Ole Boys have just turned up back at the lodge with all their gear, including several sets of bongos. They are going to treat us to an African theme night cabaret after dinner. Swedish Chef is not amused. He planned to serve up some Swedish nosh and play all his Abba CDs at full volume.
This could mean war, and the end of civilisation as we know it, once Cheffy starts slinging his meatballs around. So, gang, we had better head back to base...everybody form a conga line and we'll conga our way down Kilimanjaro.......aye aye conga! Everybody bonga! One life - your life - live it!0 -

I believe they can, although it's more normal to take it as extra security for them. If they can't take the money without the code, then it's pointless taking any of the other card details to even secure the booking as they wouldn't be able to take payment if you just didn't turn up.
I was afraid that was the case! Looks like I need to find the extra money this month. I will wait until I see the money has been taken before I declare it a spend though, I think, so I'm still on track today....Debt Free I FFEF I Building Savings I 2025 Plan:- Regular Savings £8,200/£10,000

Sounds good to me!! I am now going to have the Um Bongo song stuck in my head all afternoon though!
My work here is done. :rotfl:
I'm going to claim my NSD for today. I have 6-a-side tonight (Hubert and his extra legs could come in handy) but I've put money aside for that and as it's a fitness activity I wouldn't count that anyway.0 -
