Early Check-In Requested - Hotel charging me Extra

Which they are entitled to do........Disappointed before I've even arrived......requested early check-in for hotel in March, hotel have replied:
Kindly inform that our normal check in time is 14:00 hrs. In case that guaranteed early check in is required, one night accommodation charge will be required. That would be THB 16,050 ++.

I was REALLY hoping for a "sure, no problem we'd be happy to assist"

They offer very late checkout at no extra charge because I'm a priority member, but don't offer early checkin, why do hotels do this?

Leaves a bad taste in the mouth! So now my dilemma is to cancel and book elsewhere and see how they'll treat this early check in request, what would you do?

Context: I'm staying 3 nights at this hotel!

As you chose this hotel for a reason - and appear to collect points for this chain I'd either choose another comparable hotel and before booking call them and ask them what their early check in policy is Or I'd arrive early leave my bags with the bell -get on with my day and return at normal checking in time.................or if early check in was essential to me I'd pay it and be glad I'd got it as a guarantee and not just a request which may or may not be fufilled.

Sometimes stuff like this is worth paying for - sometimes it isn't. It will vary from trip to trip as well as person to person. If you are checking in from a long international flight -it may be worth the extra -alternatively if travelling in business use the arrivals lounge to shower when you arrive instead (assuming you have some form of status with your airline)

Early departures are less likely than on time check ins.

Good idea and as I'm flying long Business Class I think I won't stump up the extra and wait and see what happens.

Flight arrives in Bangkok at 07h35, so lets add 1h30/2h00 to clear immigration, get luggage, drive through traffic etc. I think I will be at the hotel 09h35?
  • Do they have a cheaper room available for your first part-day? That sounds quite pricey; I make that about £325.
Are you for real? - Glass Half Empty??

  • It is fairly normal for there to be a charge for pre-arranged early check in or any late check out hence why one of the perks of the higher tier status with hotels tends to include complimentary versions of these subject to availability.

Its different to just happening to turn up early and asking if your room happens to be ready yet or not.

that early, may mean that the hotel cant use the room the night before, hence the extra night charge

Drop your bags at the hotel and spend the time until 14:00 doing stuff, that 16000 THB will buy you a fair bit of entertainment :D.

Yep, I think you are all right, I will do that.

Still disappointed though, who knows, I will arrive and they might decide to cave and give it to me early, wait and see I guess.
