Talking of cars I did deliberately start a heated discussion this morning as OH was talking more rhubarb than ever.
OH has been watching Top gear which all of my gang are obsessed with  and apparently it said that now with modern cars and all of their technology the official stopping distances that have been in the highway code forever are now defunct as modern cars now can stop safely in a much shorter distance.
I said this was fine but all the other factors that can influence the stopping distance of a car are just the same as they have always been - the moderness and technology of a car is just one factor, a major one but not necessarily the over all deciding factor in how fast a car can come to a full stop in an emergency situation
stopping distances are also affected by the road and weather conditions, driver alertness, awareness and reaction times etc
I have noticed most youngsters now race up to junctions and then slam on the brakes at the last second - possibly watching too much Top Gear“Create all the happiness you are able to create; remove all the misery you are able to remove. Every day will allow you, --will invite you to add something to the pleasure of others, --or to diminish something of their pains.”0 -
Yes, for most accounts it is £1000 (or whatever they say) in total rather than in one transaction. So you could arguably transfer from a to b to a to b etc until £1000 total (though a faff - if you had £1000 to transfer then do it once then back again).
Yorkshire Bank/Clydesdale are offering £150 to switch until the end of this month - and it appears that you may be able to open more than one account (so long as you have more than one external account to switch). The linked thread gives more details and discussion.
Prepare yourself for the application process through - phone (or branch) based, at least 30 mins to apply which sees like a lifetime when they are reading T&Cs out to you on the phone and potentially (likely) frustration with the paperwork coming through (or not - so many examples of missing paperwork from joining packs!)). But £150 (... per account) makes it worthwhile.

Thank you. I've just found a leaflet about switching that came with some post for mr monkey he doesn't have an account to switch but I do. I just don't have £1000 a month  every month0 -
Hi has anyone got a PDF for the Umbongo drink please as in 6 or so to one page please ? I ve just printed one from the link our Dottie provided but it's the whole of the a4 page long by about 5 inches down . Obviously this wastes a lot of ink and is a bit too much at the checkout lol. I don't know how to do it smaller . thanks
I've forgotten about this MOC - think I need to re read the printable coupons thread - I don't think I used even one MOC in January
£1.50 for 2 packs in Sada - good filler and useful for lunch boxes.“Create all the happiness you are able to create; remove all the misery you are able to remove. Every day will allow you, --will invite you to add something to the pleasure of others, --or to diminish something of their pains.”0 -

When they say £1000 a month can it be the same one recycled from a to b then back to a??
Please and thank you
Yes just deposit £1000 (you can take it out straight away if you like) after the switch date, then £150 is credited after about 1 month.
I've had one £150 so far.
You don't have to put in £1000 every month, just a one off.
And a few people have been told on the YB thread that this offer is on until the end of March.
So plenty of time to open 'spare' accounts.
I've opened 12+ accounts in the last few months
I found the opening process fine, first couple were about 25 mins, others shorter as they don't have to go through everything again.I Hate Jobsworths!!!0 -

Who said anything about every month? They have fee free accounts and most without the £1000 per month requirement (need to pay in £1000 once to trigger the payment - Direct requires £1000 per month IIRC if you want the 2% interest, otherwise go for Current Account Plus) ... and once you have the £150, you can be off to the next bank touting their wares.

Yes but the ones I mean are 65p ( half price ) for a litre carton so 15p in T. ChrisV used to be very good with so many coupons to a page .:o0 -
