I'm going to bed.
Maybe not popularbut I just say what others are thinking? it's fine to be giving stuff to the food banks and I'm sure they welcome it......but has anyone ever stopped to think how utterly condescending they sound?? I have free biscuits.....I won't eat them so I'll give them to the food bank. Seriously folks, if you have been involved with the people who really need food banks ( not the ones that take the !!!!) you wouldn't dare be so condescending :-( why should someone be grateful for 'fillers' that you wouldn't dare eat yourself?
this has bugged me lately. in my experience food bank users are no better or worse than us. they are people who have fallen on hard times. Could be you or I? so why do they deserve the stuff that isn't good enough for you?0 -
Well I've said my piece and it's not a sausage piece LFAB

I agree with a lot of what you say, FC :T
People shouldn't be shamed or guilted into giving to foodbanks. If you want to that's great, if you don't then that's fine.
Where I disagree slightly (but not entirely) is on the condescending part.I eat the same biscuits so I'm not giving anything I wouldn't use myself. I shared around family, friends, work colleagues and after deciding what to keep for ourselves I donated the excess.
I am, however, all too aware that someone on the receiving end might very well say "Biscuits?! Why are they donating biscuits! I'd rather have a tin of soup than a pack of biscuits. Is this person so far removed from reality that they really thought I would want biscuits?!"
I'm not that clueless but soup simply isn't glitching. It's not like I set out to buy £x of food to donate and made a conscious choice to buy biscuits with it.
I give in the hope that it goes to someone who appreciates it as a treat they otherwise might not have had.
From a selfish point of view I feel good for giving and I have fewer biscuits to fatten myself with :rotfl:Apparently, everybody knows that the bird is [strike]the word[/strike] a moorhen0 -
