Good thinking
So on the basis that I'm registered as self employed today, will my first self assessment be due in July or January?
Technically your first assessment will be for 2014-15 and can be done online from July. However, I'm sure when I set up close to the April tax year end there was something whereby I could combine both into the following tax year. Don't quote me on that as I can't quite remember the ins and outs.
EDIT: Once registered, HMRC should send you a letter/email advising when you need to submit your assessment.“Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while you could miss it.” ~ Ferris Bueller0 -

This has happened to me twice at Aldi. The letters came from Parking Eye. On the first occasion, I had gone over the time, and the other time I'd been in the carpark twice in the same day and the cameras clocked it as one long visit.
I didn't respond to Parking Eye at all. Instead, I wrote a very nicely worded letter to ALDI HQ explaning what a good shopper I was and that I did frequent small shops, daily. To their credit, they cancelled the charges and instructed Parking Eye to drop it [both times].
Hope you can get the same outcome.0 -
Briefly thinking about some non-cereal bar comparisons... is there any 'fresh meat' at Tosco that gives a PP ? My £10 meat voucher from Orchard has arrived #CHEEKY :cool:0

On the above basis I think your first assessment deadline will be Jan 2016?“Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while you could miss it.” ~ Ferris Bueller0 -

Maybe we should see if aau does special Elite rates:D:rotfl:
I sort of do the accounts for our business. I have an invoice template in Word and several templates in Excel including ingoing and outgoing, also use that to check my VAT calculations when I need to. At the end of the year we send all this info in Excel to our accountant, who my OH shares an office with.
We have a friend who is part of another business my OH has, he keeps the accounts for that company, he uses accounts software. When I need to find something quickly I can find it within minutes of turning on the computer, he needs several hours. I would never use accounting software, my way is simple and it does the job! What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0 -

I'm sure you've already thought of it but can I just suggest that you keep everything, anything paper in a folder and back-ups of your excel spreadsheets on a memory stick because if your computer happened to break it would be a nightmare trying to remember everything. There comes a time in every woman's life when the only thing that helps is a glass of champagne ...
