Welcome to the world of keeping receipts, records and doing accounts!

...and the panic that sets in when you see the Self Assessment Deadline ads on TV and you go off to check you really did do it months ago! :)

Doing the books is easy, and it helps me to focus and think where the hell is that receipt, how many miles did I drive that day etc.

When I say doing the books... I just keep a spread sheet, with a column with all the days/dates of the year, and other columns of incomings and all the different outgoings....... I claim mileage, but I also keep a column of diesel/car costs just for my own personal reference... it is my biggest cost and I want to make sure it balances out as when you do over 10,000 miles (which I do in 10 weeks) drops considerable!!

I do love the freedom of working for myself.

    :D:D:D:D:D

I go the spreadsheet route too. However, this could become more complicated now that I have two jobs - one employed and one self employed!

Yep, I hope you are right. If they work now I might return later to get some more for some work chums.

I went to the shop with an idea and a mobile phone. I had no time to make a plan and when I got to the store I realised that I had deleted the emails with lists from yesterday as I was so sure the glitch had finished.:o

Anyway, I bought all Special K and I think I got all the ones on your list.

Wouldn't it be ironic after what I said yesterday morning if the only person in the whole of England, Scotland and Wales to have to pay full price for the bars was me..:rotfl:

I've given up trying to explain to DW what to do if something is OOS or if the SEL is different :rotfl:

Will wait for your results before heading out myself

If you could post T and M comp that would be appreciated! actually, S and W would be helpful too :rotfl:

I'm suspicious of when they update M :o

That's a good idea- I need to buy a printer and a few other bits but pretty much have everything I need so a small loan from me to me would cover what I need covering :)

It's funny, i have known for ages what I want to do and had an idea of the basics, but I know next to nothing about the nitty gritty of some things :o

I am such a worrier, that I spent a year researching and plucking up the guts to resign...... When I eventually resigned I felt great, shame I had to work my notice!

I had typed myself an idiots guard, but this is on the old computer that I put on the fire ..... as it had problems and it was the only way I could think of making sure I was complaint with data protection without having to pay money!!

Now the idea of that gives me a terrible headache... :o:o:o:o

I have no idea how you balance both in your life or on the books!

No probs, I will post all four comparisons.;)

That is unless I've done a Nerfy and broke it, in which case there'll be no point..:rotfl:

Might sound a simple thing but having a folder headed 'Business' in my normal email - helps me find stuff which inevitably sometimes comes to my non-business email address which I've omitted to forward. Saves me trawling through hundreds of emails to find something I know I've seen! Like the aforementioned confirmation of Self Assessment return done in July! :rotfl: Panic over.

    Good thinking :D

So on the basis that I'm registered as self employed today, will my first self assessment be due in July or January? :o

Indeed. I didn't start the part-time employed until last Sept so it will be this year's assessment that takes me forever!
