Bit confused over tax/NI - Have earned about £3.5k from MS this year so well within limits for paying any NI. My rail ticket reimbursements were £9.5k. So in total I have suddenly become a large earner so am I now liable for 9% NI?
NIC for the self-employed is based on your earnings (your profits) not your turnover. So if the tickets are allowable expenses then you should be below the Class 2 and Class 4 thresholds.
I don't know enough to comment on whether your tickets are allowable. I've never done any jobs involving reimbursement of train fares.
If your earnings are below the threshold, have you considered putting on a voluntary stamp?0 -
There's http://www.servelegal.co.uk/ if you look young!
On the positive side, in another 15 years he can do the funeral jobs :cool:Yes it's overwhelming, but what else can we do?
Get jobs in offices and wake up for the morning commute?0 -

If the tickets are needed to complete the job then they should be fine as an expense. Just add them into your income and take them off as an expense on the other side of your spreadsheet.0 -
Yes with MF there always seems to be proof reading queries about something you didn't need to include. I have one now which is querying something which I wasn't asked in identical scenario I did in the same chain.
also I did something daft. I took photos of a place when I didn't need to as it is usually the norm to submit photo - oops.0 -
also does anyone ever bother to nominate anyone for excellent service. what is it that they have to do. i have occasionally but sometimes it is easier not to bother itms0

I do try give "outstanding service"
comments when it's warranted and the assistant builds up a genuine rapport with me or if it's a dining one with both me and hubby.
I'm a part time retail worker , mainly just cos I like it and I'm there cos I want to be, I am self
Employed (not as a mystery shopper, this is fairly new to me) and like to be out with people occasionally. It makes my week when someone pays me a compliment to one of the management team and I'd like to think a mystery shopper would do the same.
Hooray no proof reading queries on vile report of yesterday though0 -

Better to take one when it's not needed than forget to take one, I do it without thinking now, same as getting what's left and right.missymouse wrote: »also does anyone ever bother to nominate anyone for excellent service. what is it that they have to do. i have occasionally but sometimes it is easier not to bother itms
You are right they do make it easier not to nominate, I only say yes when someone has really gone beyond what I would expect.0 -
The pharmacy ones when GR had them were as rare as hens teeth for me personally and I never saw the clothes one.
I am wondering if there is a move away from FFF as even the likes of GFK and ESA have been ringing me up offering jobs before they appear on the board.
I only got my local pharmacy offered very rarely and never any others. I don't know what the clothes on was. Its usually the bottom smacking supermarket keeps popping up on my page. Not that I have ever taken it though, too much work for not enough pay. At least this month I now have a lot of the pharmacy ones.0 -

I dont mind the 'slappers' as they are relatively easy to do, especially if you do the pick up only ones. The ones with the umpteen enquries - agree a bit painful, but if you know the store quite well, you can usually get round them very quickly. Best to do do those in a quiet period.
I was really surprised when RA actually offered me a job in a local town for a decent fee. Nearly choked over the cornflakes - they clearly do have better jobs and just put the dregs on the board.0 -
Yep. Have unsacked RA recently as they have some nice well paid jobs if you get the phone call. The board has just dregs and I told them so.0
