Hey. Yes, your post definately strikes a chord with me!
I am 12 months into my trip, and it was definately my motivation in wanting to be debt free - and as you can see from my sig, I was in a LOT of debt!!
You will have a great time and it will be worth it - just make sure you do it!!
Wishing you the best of luck xx0 -
Hey MJDH1957 - that sounds great! I took the train from Perth to Sydney via Adelaide and Kalgoorlie a few years ago and it was amazing - the landscape is incredible as it's so baron :-) Best of luck! Have a fab time! x :j
I've never been anywhere in the southern hemisphere yet, so am looking forward to it immensely. And saving like mad until we go (early Feb next year).Retired in 2015.

Hi Sarah,I am also 26 and have spent a lot of time paying off my debts. Now I am debt free I am scrimping & saving so I can go Car racing. Most people will know that Motor sport is not cheap but it's my ambition. I have signed up for the Olympic Challenge. If I was to travel I would explore America/ Austraillia/ New Zealand. I have been to New York but travelling on a flight for 10 hours puts me off. I'd rather do it in one!Keep us posted.I am full of joy, abundance, wealth and love.I am a money magnet. Money comes easily and frequently.Canada excursion fund £1243/2500£10000 from £100 challenge £0/£10,0000

Well my fave was prob an outback camping trip in oz... but as you've been to oz already... I would vote for Morocco! I went for a short holiday recently and it was amazing
especially Marrakech. (V cheap to get to thanks to Ryanair and Atlas Blue!)
PS - if you do go there take a compass! The old town medinas are veeeeeeeeery easy to get lost in. To be fair that was half the fun but it did get annoying when you were tired and just wanted to find where you were staying :rotfl: :rotfl:
Mortgage free as of 12/08/20!

AgreedI have been to Rome in January though and it was really really cold. Was colder there than have ever been sking which put me off a bit!
I would go back to Italy in an instant this yr if I could afford it (Used to do it lots when I couldn't afford it!!). My boyfriend and I are going to take a trip to Italy when I'm debt freeJan 1st 07 Car loan £4830.46@12% Personal Loan £11,517@8% variable Overdraft £1500 July 2009Halifax-£0Debt free date 14th July 2009 :j0 -
What a fantastic plan! I think you will be building fantastic memories to enjoy for your whole life, no matter where you go. In ten years' time when you're up to your elbows in dirty nappies you will be able to look back with great fondness on all your adventures. (Not that there's anything wrong with the nappy years - but you are a bit more limited!)
Good luck! I've never been out of Europe but can wholeheartedly recommend a few days in Berlin if you're passing that way.

Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos are all good if you want "off the beaten track" a bit more (although Vietnam isn't really off the beaten track anymore!). Wonderful people, the friendliest I've ever met.
My friend took an amazing train trip over a period of about 3 months from Moscow to Beijing, traveling through places like Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan - if you want off the beaten track, that's the place to go!
All through China and India would be quite incredible. NZ and Australia are great places (I'm a NZer myself!) but they're full of Brits, so if you're looking to do something a little different, maybe not the place to go.
Sth America has a good travel infrastructure but will still provide you with something a bit more off the beaten track.
Go everywhere, see everything! That's what I'm doing!0 -
Another vote for South America - definately!
And for Vietnam as well - really easy to travel around and just a beautiful place
Have a ball, and really like your plan - look forward to hearing how it comes together.0 -
Well my fave was prob an outback camping trip in oz...
I did the same thing and it was one of the highlights of my trip.. I am pleased I did it and didnt just do the East Coast like a lot of travellers..
I agree that there are a lot of Brits over here, but you dont have to hang around with them - and Oz and Nz arent an awful lot different to the UK, but (and I havent been to NZ yet) I have had an amazing time and it is still a different country to explore!
The thing with travelling is it makes you realise that there is still so much more out there and so many people you have met on your way to go and visit in a different continent. I am scared that I'll get home and then never get back out again....
But sorry to hijack your thread.....0 -
My holidays now tend to be centred around diving (no mosquitos!), however, I have travelled to Thailand, Mexico (west coast), St Lucia, Antigua, St Barts, St Thomas, Dominican Republic, Dominica, Guadelupe, Grenada, Tortola, St Martins, Sharm El Sheikh, Florida, Las Vegas, Denmark, France, Corfu, Cyprus, Crete. I would love to do Oz and have a long list of diving locations on my I-wish list!
I am off to Maldives for my honeymoon in September hopefully (not booked yet!).Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!
