DFW Wannabe and travelling the world!

Hi all!!

If all goes to plan, my DFD is at the end of this year. This whole experience has made me realise that it's all too easy to get stuck in a rut, so i've decided to give myself 2 years to save save save (will continue to save what would have been my repayments etc plus any surplus - how exciting to say that!!) and plan a trip around the world (well, as much of it as I can afford anyway!).

I'm 26 and feel that i've wasted the last few years trying to fix my financial mistakes so i'm going to do what i've always wanted, save save save, plan plan plan and travel.

Anyway, as a bit of fun - I wondered if anyone had any favourite places around the world they'd recommend visiting!! Anywhere 'off the beaten track' so to speak?

All suggestions very welcome!! :-)

Many thanks,
Sarah xxx

Hi Sarah - Congratulations on your imminent 'Debt Free Date'. :T :T

I am pleased to see that your experience has taught you that there are other things in life than money, and I hope you have a great time travelling.

Not sure where to reccomend, though, there's a whole world out there - just enjoy.

What a fantastic plan - and great news on your DFD being close for you!

The first place that sprang to mind was the Greek islands. Not really off the beaten track, but I wouldn't turn down a few weeks sailing around them!!

Good luck Sarah & well done. If you fancy Australia for a while, get yourself up to the Great Barrier Reef. Fantastic. If you are a party animal,Airlie Beach is like Ibiza in Oz! Australia Zoo near Brisbane also fantastic. I have been to Spain,Greece,Cyprus & Malta amongst other places over the years but i enjoyed Australia more than all of those places put together. Wherever you decide to go,enjoy, as you deserve it. All the best.

All great suggestions! Think I would definitely enjoy a few months sailing around the Greek Islands.............very tempting to just go now with all this this nasty weather we've been having! :-)

I'm hoping to build up a bit long list to tackle so keep them coming!!!

If you want to learn how to dive, then Heron Island on the Barrier Reef in Australia is a lovely place to learn. It is a small island (you can walk around it!) and they do PADI courses there.

I also love New Zealand especially the north part of north island (so much so that we are emigrating there soon).

Don't forget that some countries allow you to travel and work if you get the right permit. But you can't overstay or anything or you get into trouble!

Also make sure that you have a credit card that doesn't charge you for using your card abroad - ie Nationwide credit card. Also your current account card will do cash withdrawals abroad, but again ask your current account provider if they charge.

That's a great idea - i'd like to look into working on my way around for sure to cover my costs as best I can. As part of the 101 things challenge i've started learning Spanish which will hopefully make me slightly more versatile employee!! :-)

I lived in the US and road tripped around it. It was AMAZING! I would totally recommend it. And if you like snow, defo go to colorado! I lived in Breckenridge and cried so much when my visa ran out, that I went and got another and went back....ha ha ha.

Also, Canada is amazing. So much so I'm going there for my honeymoon in December. If you go in the summer months you can go see the Orcas....amazing.

Also, I love Denmark, such beautiful place, Copenhagen is amazing! I love Athens in Greece - although it does get SUPER hot there, but I'm sure you knew that already. Finland is a crazy place too, you can see the northern lights there, if you don't see em in Canada.

But I'd make sure you get plenty of Europe in too, it's right on your doorstep and beautiful.

    I'm soooooo jealous.
