Have you tried to reason with eBay on this matter? (or reason with eBay on ANY matter come to think of it!!)

I had a listing pulled for a pair of leather jeans that the missus bought over 2 years ago, but were too small. She lost a load of weight and now they are too big.

Never worn, but been sat in a cupboard since Xmas 2004, still with tags etc, but obviously not worn.

I listed them in the specifics as Used - given their age, and the fact the leather has dried out slightly, but otherwise they are unworn and "as new".

I got the first automated response from eBay and lost the will to live.

  • Grrrrrr. i have only just seen this - i just had a listing pulled for the use of 'as new' in the title. They are a pair of baby shoes that my daughter had on for less than an hour whilst sitting in a buggy and then they have never been worn again. They havent touched the floor as she was in the buggy so they are 'as new'.

TBH seeing 'as new' in the title (espesh when after baby bits n bobs like a baby chair, baby shoes/clothes, etc) actually attracts my attention more than something that has no indication of its current state. It takes far too long to troll through and click into every description to find a used item in perfect condition, as alot of my items are. So personally i think ebay are shooting themselves in the foot.

I have been selling and buying on ebay for years now and im increasingly getting listings pulled for this or similar silly reasons. I have been pulled for listing a pair of ann summers knickers (because they were crotchless); listings pulled for saying in my page (not description title) that i had the matching item of a set also avail and up for auction, take a look; and also for saying a pair of shoes were a uk2 but would fit a uk3 much better (kurt geiger - known for their sizes being bigger). Its all a joke, with the final one i was only helping someone make the correct purchase rather than buying something that would clearly be very generous in size. These are just a few!

Im now doing my final clearout and after that it will be goodbye Ebay, i cant be bothered with all the hassle it causes anymore.

Sorry for the rant, this really gets my goat!

Even if they are from the seventies with the tags on they can be described as new
  • So according to ebay's definition, an unworn 1970s garment could still be "new".

Trying to reason with ebay is generally a waste of time. I wouldn't have put "used" in the item specifics in the case you mentioned though, since they weren't actually used. If I don't think either "new" or "used" is an accurate description of an item's condition then I just leave that bit blank.

I once sold this book on Ebay & it got removed as it had a swear word in the title. How was I supposed to sell the book if I couldn't list it's title??!

Listings were pulled without notice, repeatedly, while others - identical - remained. Eventually learnt that Shipping Exclusion zones have to apply and that Ebays US and Germany sweep for such things routinely.
