No, it's keyword spamming due to the words 'as new' appearing :)

Anyone searching for the word 'new' will bring up a load of 'as new' items they're not interested in.

Would anyone really go searching on ebay for 'new look'? :rotfl: :D

That's exactly why I was so disgruntled- it's only new look!!

Things make a lot more sense to me now, thanks!

It's just another silly ebay policy to get around its own deficiencies in its search engine.

"As New", "Like New", "Nearly New" all convey some meaning as to the state of the goods, no-one is trying to mis-represent the goods, it's just a description of the condition of the goods.

I'd be interested to know how people define the word "New" with regards to goods on EBAY

For me, it would be something unused! 'Nearly new' or 'as new' would not be for me if I was looking for a gift (say)

But this could be misleading as it could be 'unused' but still be old (if you get what I mean). For example I sold a while ago a CD which was unopened in its original cellophane, but it was about 8 years old (collectors edition). So it was new in the sense that it had never been used, but not really 'new' as such.

So if I buy a pair of jeans and never wear them are they new, they are certainly second hand. Might want to define them as "As New" or "Nearly New".

I'd call them new... after all, they've never been worn, and you probably never bothered to take the tags off.

I know what you mean.. I suppose part of the haziness of the 'new' distinction comes between general items, (new) and clothes (new). The latter probably matters more to people.

I don't think it's what you had in the title (in red) that is the cause, I reckon it was because you said 'boho' as this too is a company name.
 Really? Since when? I think it's disgusting that new labels can hijack words and phrases which have been in common usage for many years and prevent others from using them. I suppose the somewhat ironically-titled New Look have hijacked a common phrase, but as far as I'm aware the company itself does not target others using the phrase legitimately to describe a style rather than a brand, or those using the words "new" and "look" separately.
I actually find it quite frustrating that the brand New Look is called New Look: if they had a more distinctive name I would search for the brand on eBay, because I like their combination of styles I wear with reasonable prices. I'm not in the least bit embarrassed to say I have many New Look garments in my wardrobe.

Provided that you bought them recently of course (not from the 70's with the tags still on) and they're still a current cut. :D

    Ebay states:

An item is considered "New" when it meets the following criteria:
    • It is in the original condition from the manufacturer, distributor, or retailer.
    • It has not been refurbished or used for any purpose.
    • It has no known defects or damages.
Handmade or custom-made items that have never been used for any purpose may also be considered “new”.
Note: Item condition is not an indication of the item's age.
