We planned the kitchen cupboards right up to the ceiling to create more storage as the kitchen is quite small and also to prevent the dreaded cleaning the top of the cupboards job.. We have frost free fridge and freezer so just clean the shelves when they need it. Oven maybe once or twice a year we do wipe it as necessary when we use it. Windows when they need doing. Not housewife of the year but it is clean and reasonably tidy...

I defrosted my freezer only a couple of weekends ago. Which was the first time I'd done it since moving into my current property 3.5 years ago.
    It was well over-due.

  • Fridge - once a week before shop
Freezer - frost free but do move around before I do shop
Windows - once a week with karcher
Doors / door frames - every other day
Light fittings - every other day dust
    Light switches - most days
    Oven - once a month
Conservatory windows - once a week
Kitchen cupboards outside - most days
Kitchen cupboards inside - once a fortnight

I am a bit OCD when it comes to cleaning and clean every night after work or before work if I'm up early enough ... I started in my old house after I had the kids and that was a bit harder as it was a five bed massive Victorian detached over 3 floors but now I've downsized to a 3 bed its lovely ... Gonna kill me when they start the extension !

And does anybody really cover them with cling-film so they can bin that greasy layer of aerosol fat which collects from frying every year or so...?
I dust mine whenever I feel steady enough to stand on the step-stool to do it, but at least once a month, getting DH to do it if necessary. I use them as supplementary storage, for things like spare kitchen rolls; and just because they're above eye-level doesn't mean I don't want them clean.

No I don't cover them in cling-film, because doing them at least monthly means we don't get a massive build-up of grease.

I keep the top of the fridge-freezer clean also; the bread machine lives up there when it's not in use.

I have found that the easiest way to clean the tops of kitchen cupboards which I dont do very often as it is difficult to get at is to use neat Fairy liquid which will lift off the grease dramatically. Sometimes I put old tea towels on the clean tops so it is less difficult next time. HTH

Top of kitchen cupboards...I put newspapers and/or magazine pages to cover the whole lot, folding them obviously, so that they are not seen. I've got a sort of plinth (if that's the right word), at the top of mine, so that helps in that I can cover the whole lot without it being seen. Suppose you could use anything really, wallpaper, cling film, whatever you have handy.
Easy to replace, saves a load of elbow grease, and dizzy attacks at high altitude!

Kitchen cupboards are pretty easy as I have to store everything in containers. Items that I use a lot are in individual lock n click kind of containers, or in storage jars. More rarely used items are all put together in their packets, in larger containers.

As for cleaning the kitchen, it gets a good going over from top to bottom, including fridge-freezer and oven, about once a month. (Tops of the cupboards, due to newspapers about twice a year).
