Had 4 different ones outside mine after I moved in.
In fairness, a quick email to each EA and they did remove them soon after.0 -

I had no idea that they were even made to last 6+ years!
You left it in your garden for 6 years without removing it yourself?

What still at the front of your house in the place it was put by the EA?, or you had taken it down and left it in the garage/somewhere by your house.
OP-Ours was removed within a week or two of moving. I wouldn't worry about it, you may have more pressing issues in house buying/selling than this, but if this is the worst think that you need to worry about in the whole process then i envy you:)0 -

It was a sign owned by the Estate Agency, attached to a telegraph pole owned by BT/Openreach on a verge owned by the council. I'm pretty sure that I had no legal right or responsibility to interfere with it!
OP - if the sign is still there when you move in they make fab sledges with the post removed!0 -
We completed in Feb last year. Arrived and took the for sale sign down ourselves. It's still there, down the side of our shed. Keep meaning to ask the EA if they want it back.
OP - as others have said, the house will stay on RM and signed, but as Sold STC until at least exchange of contracts. Pretty standard, but the EA shouldn't be accepting viewings any more. If you're really worried, get a friend to ring the EA and ask if they can view it. The EA should refuse.0 -
for sale board disappeared 3 weeks after i moved in - came back from work and it was gone. don't worry.Dogs return to eat their vomit, just as fools repeat their foolishness. There is no more hope for a fool than for someone who says, "i am really clever!"0

Phil & Kirsty seem to ask for the property to be taken off the market as a condition of their client's offer - but then they have more clout than mere mortals.
My sold sign was still here when I moved in. Rang EA asking them to collect it. Still stayed. Neighbour threw it away in the end.
If the "For Sale" bit is added on, you could un-clip it to reveal the "sold".0 -
The post makes good firewood - or stakes if you have a vampire problem locally0

Thanks for all the responses, you put my mind at rest about it being common.
Amusingly, after all that, my friend nessaged me tonight to say it now has a sold sign up!

Just go along at night ,pinch it and bin it somewhere,,job done..Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0
