Ebay say Feedback doesn't have to be honest or factual

Got a neutral and a neg unfairly. Normally would be straightforward with live chat - but used the new email process.

Neutral claimed item a fake - i have receipt from well known retailer. Buyer made no complaint or any contact at all.

Neg says arrived late. Tracking shows arrived 2 days early (i sent first instead of 2nd). Again no contact.

Thought having proof would make it a breeze.

Ebays response:- Feedback left by buyers does not have to be honest or factual, it just represents the buyers feelings towards the transaction. So i am afraid that on this occasion the defects will stand.

So there you have it - buyers can lie through their teeth - with Ebays backing.

Still only 1.36% defect rate - but not for anything i could have controlled - and thats not cricket :(

Worth trying again. You've got nothing to lose.
  • Outrageous response from eBay.

They are clearly saying that buyers can leave whatever feedback they like and sellers just have to accept it.

When Live Chat were able to remove unjust feedback and stars, albeit a time-consuming process, I felt that the system had improved, and felt a lot more protected as a seller. Seems the pendulum has swung back the other way again.

Will do. They take about 4 days to respond though but worth another go.

Same here - i actually thought Ebay had turned a corner by allowing live chat to use common sense.

Clearly whoever it is at Ebay who hates sellers, disagrees and has clamped down.
  • That is a strange decision, I've always found them quite reasonable.
  • If I was you, I would get back to ebay and quote the following:

    Why leave Feedback?

Leaving honest comments gives members a good idea of what to expect when dealing with other members
Should I leave neutral or negative Feedback for a seller?

Feedback comments become a permanent part of a seller’s record. If you are a buyer, contact your seller to try to resolve any issues before leaving neutral or negative Feedback. Please make sure that your comments are fair, based in fact, and relate to the specific transaction for which you received the Feedback request.
  • Just thinking out loud, if they state that you have sold a fake , they are claiming you have broken the law, and therefore, eBay should at least remove the comment under a "Removal By A Notice of Claim of Defamation Statutory Declaration", which is simply a matter of printing off some documents, signing them , scanning them and sending the scans to an eBay email address.

These forms only removed the comment, not the actual feedback. So a red dot would remain, but the comment would say "comment removed by ebay".

That's true, but I've always said the big players don't mind a bit of waffle in feedback, item late, or "slightly smaller than it looks in the picture" twitish comments, however, "Seller is seling fakes" is pretty damming.

The problem with that is anyone daft enough to work for Ebay live chat, by definition, would have limited common sense.
I always found it to be the most irritating process but can well imagine that the majority of stuff they have to deal with is from the kind of numpties who dial 999 because they can't get their kettle to boil.

I had had a neg a couple of years ago that said slow delivery, the item was sent tracked and showed delivered within 24 hours of payment (paid late one afternoon got there the next morning). I said to ebay that the neg comment was untrue and totally unfair, "life is not fair" said the ebay rep, I was fuming but never got it removed.
