I agree with furts - begin by seeing what can be freegle / freecycled. Obviously be honest about the condition it's in, but as pointed out, some people just need some old carpet, for all sorts of reasons!
If no joy, ask the council what they would charge and then see if any of the other companies are cheaper.

    A warning about this company:

Today Clearabee were booked to remove rubbish from my property in East London. At the time of booking I was asked to pay a £49 deposit. I was concerned about making an upfront payment, but was reassured by the salesman.
Two drivers arrived earlier than scheduled and immediately starting finding issues:
remarking on the contents, despite my already informing the person at the time of booking what the rubbish was due to a house recent refurbishment.
They then informed me that they would have to block the road, there were three spaces available outside the house.
They also told me that it was unlikely the rubbish would fit in their vehicle, so I told them that they could leave the branches in the garden. Despite this they then told me that I would have to pay £138.
I’d been told that the cost of the waste removal would be £110 - they then asked for my debit card for payment.
I refused to pay until they had done the work - I had already paid a deposit.
They continued to ask for upfront payment, I told them to do the job, then they would be paid. That was the last I saw of them.
I then called to make a complaint and spoke to someone named Robert, who spent 10 minutes asking me about the size of the car parking spaces & where the men had disappeared to. He asked me when the spaces were available and repeatedly asked me why I was calling. It was evident that he was evading the issue & having a laugh with his colleagues (at my expense). {Text removed by MSE Forum Team}. Cut it up, put it in the back of your car and take to your local "recycling centre" (or tip in proper English).

This part of the OP might make it difficult for them to do that...

We don't have transportation to take it to the dump ourselves (live in suburban London near a station so don't use a car)

  • Do your council offer a bulky waste collection service at all ? Some do.

Here's a clear pricing guide I found with one company. It's a saturated market from what I know and you do hear horror stories of guys taking your rubbish and money and then literally dumping it nearby. So I would say that you should only use a company with reviews associated it. Genuine ones, of course! :)

No use when the OP doesn't have a car as mentioned earlier in this 3 month old thread. Doh!

If you pay one of these cowboys to take the rubbish away you've got to be careful that they're not going to fly-tip it somewhere.
We've had a lot in the news lately with residents complaining some sites have thousands of tons of rubbish which is costing over £mllion to clean up.
