    And the answer was no.

Apparently his other friends don't haggle so much :-) so he sold it

So thanks for all the advice - I am looking on ebay but will wait for the right thing to come along
I think I saw you in an ice cream parlour
Drinking milk shakes, cold and long
Smiling and waving and looking so fine
  • Diesel Volvo may be the best route to go. £1300 would get you a high mileage s60 D5 (manual gearbox are more reliable, though are hard to find, as most were automatics).
Spend a bit more £2000 and a V70 D5 gives you all the practicality.
The D5 is regarded as a strong workhorse.
I have had Saabs (petrol Aero and Vector) 3 in total, all secondhand and 2k or less. Very good cars. The petrol ones are much more reliable and less expensive to maintain than the 1.9TDi as these were a fiat sourced engine.
  • Petrol Saab's are fine. 2.0T Aero with 210bhp are fun.

    2nd vote here for a Volvo S60 or v70 D5.

Going back to the 2.5td lump. I had it in my 1995 525TDS SE Auto est and it was a good engine. Thirsty around the houses, but would sit on the motorway all day.

    Had a look at he volvo's - that's a lot of car.

Also saw a few "new" Saabs on ebay (private sales) and autotrader (trade) so will track those for a bit
